Pros and Cons of City of Falls Church

FCC is great. We lived on the border for 3 years and we loved Broad St. Cherry Hill Park is great and so are the farmer's market and the library.

The former mayor's husband (democrat rep of falls church city) molested a bunch of girls. Many of the current leaders d supported the mayor and husband without knowing the facts and blamed the girls.

and the same people continue to defend the fact that they supported him (sent letters of character asking for a leniency in the case).

we live on the border too and get all these benefits without the taxes

I think it can be worth it to live in FCC if you like the school and smaller government. People often wonder why FCC has things like low speed limits on major roads that are enforced and speed bumps you need to come to almost a complete stop to go over where FFX county has non of that..small government.

I live in Falls Church City.

Pros: walkable, a lot of young families, lots of activities through the community center for little kids, friendly town, close to Tysons, the freeways, and the airport.

Cons: we get so much praise for our schools but unless you live here you don't know the issues: teachers quitting left and right due to little support, new teachers and admin turn-over is huge, classrooms sizes maxed out but there are teacher's aids. Traffic is pretty bad during rush hour. If you're driving expect 45 min to 1 hour during rush hour. Metro is obviously the better way to travel. Are you a hip young family? Because nightlife here consists of oldster bands covering Steely Dan. The few bars on Broad St are all old boring people with horrible taste in music. The best coffee shop is full of old people with their laptops... it's like a graveyard in there. Kindred Cafe. State Theater is a sad sack for faux 80s bands covering pop music.

I'd go to North Arlington if I were you.

We live in FCC, too. Underwhelmed.

Nice try. North Arlington is overpriced and APS is run by incompetent dimwits.

Check your sources over "teachers quitting left and right." One of the so-called advocacy groups inflated that number to stir up hysteria. Go to School Board docs and view the exit interview information. THIS is why communication breaks down.

Too expensive for a Falls Church mailing address.

North Arlington and FCC are fine if you don't care about prestige or name recognition like some of the snobs from McLean/Bethesda on this board.

This! Some posters are frustratingly pretentious about where they live.

Prestige is in the eye of the beholder. The big issues with North Arlington and FCC now are school overcrowding (in both Arlington and FCC) and high taxes (in FCC).

Umm prestige by definition is objective. You must be new here.

I would much rather live (and have lived) in Arlington EFC neighborhood. Close to the metro. Best of both worlds, if you're willing to expand your walking distance to Broad.
