There was mutual attraction.

He was an excellent mentor, and I do not regret our relationship. I've learned a lot about my industry, and made some great connections because of our relationship.

So then it's not sexual harassment. It was a mutually consensual relationship. He didn't coerce you into having sex with him.

Have some integrity.

oh, lordy. that's not what sexual harassment is, and it doesn't sound like you have a viable case. if you could claim you were pressured into sex with the boss and THEN the company fired you for it, maybe you could have a claim. but you would have to have some evidence. they almost certainly CAN fire you for sleeping with the boss (consensually) in violation of company policy, if there is a policy. but it doesn't sound like you have any reason to think you will be targeted because of the relationship. on the contrary, the relationship protected you for awhile when they would have otherwise terminated you. unless you're holding back something, nope, no claim there.

You should be, you are incoherent.

Sorry. I'm just really scared of getting laid off and the reason coming out and my boyfriend finding out.

But sleeping with your boss is not the reason! The only person who is bringing that up is you!

We understand that. But they are going to say that you are being laid off because they no longer need your job at all/your whole division was laid off last year. What's your strongest argument that that is in fact "pretext" -- that is, not the accurate reason for your being fired, and in fact it's because your boss slept with you?

Yes! This is what I am trying to say. Thank you.

I think it's the real reason. They are just going to say they are eliminating my department.

What exactly do you want to happen here? Do you intend to threaten your current employer if they let you go?

So what is your argument? If you did get fired and took this to court, it would be your burden to prove the pretext.

I don't want to be let go at all.

I guess my argument is I was sleeping with my boss, and then I got fired. Surely the jury can draw its own conclusions.

I don't want to be let go at all.

So you want to tell them, if you let me go, I'm going to bring a sexual harassment lawsuit?

This is going to backfire on you.

You should be using your contacts to find another job.

I don't want to be let go at all.

But, if they eliminated your department then it sounds like you really ARE being laid off, unless you believe they are letting your whole department go to get at you. And if you get laid off, how will your boyfriend know about the affair? Unless you raise it as the "real" reason?

But you were not fired. Your department was eliminated. You were let go. Do you see the difference?
