What would you/your husband have done? Sexism

Anonymous
I don't even think the man was necessarily being sexist.

You said you WORKED in that field--but don't currently work in that field? How would he know that? Many people find it boring when other people "talk shop."

Also he said "ladies" (plural) so I guess there was another woman there? His wife? Maybe he know HIS wife gets bored when he talks shop, and was trying to be considerate of her.

You lost me at "third country dude."

Exactly. Maybe he picked up on OP's condescending attitude toward his country, knew full well her background, and decided to have a little fun with her.

Why didn't you say something?

Why did you agree to move to a country that hates women?

Are you in Texas? My condolences.

We were just talking to a third country dude at a party, who explained what a certain very basic term means (I worked in that industry) and told my husband we shouldn't "bore the ladies with the business talk" (I have an MBA).

My husband just smiled.

I'm pissed.

Vent over.

Oh for god's sake. He's clearly a troglodyte. you don't do anything you just ignore it. What are you, 12 years old?

Why are you living in a sexist country if this matters to you? Stand up for what you believe in

Go with the flow. Cultural relativism.

Perhaps he just didn't want to talk about business in front of you and thought that doing so was rude. Perhaps he just said that to change subjects and include you in the conversation.

My husband, who is from Egypt (so, a similar country to what you are describing), would have told them I'm an attorney and highly educated, and that he as a businessman could benefit from my expertise in such and such. He brags all the time. Brags more than I can deliver, lol.

However, in Egypt, many UMC women hold pretty powerful jobs.
