Who puts the lid on your coffee, and do they wear gloves?

Restaurants are gross and that's part of the deal you make when you go out to eat. I notice things like the lid, the bartender touching the drinking end of the straws, so on. Unless I see something egregious, I just let it go and hope my immune system does its job.

Was she also handling the money? If not, gloves aren't really necessary as long as her hands are washed. Think about it. She would touch all the coffee-making equipment with her gloves, picking up all of the same germs (onto her gloves) that she would get on her hands. What's the difference?

Agreed. Setting the gloves aside, why not simply avoid touching the drinking area? Seems like DD 101, no? That, and don't shove the iced part of the donut on the bottom of the bag.

OP, you're a nut job if you think this is the worst that happens in a food handling environment. This is minor. I used to work at Burger King when I was a teenager. You couldn't even imagine what some of my coworkers would do to your food if you gave them shit.

What about the inside of the cup? Just because you didn't see anything happen, doesn't mean it didn't.

Unless you're immuno-compromised in some way, as I am right now, please don't worry about it. This is the way the West does their thing.

It would be unheard of in Japan, land of hygiene! But we're not in Japan

Now as for the coffee thing....

BAD mood or not, you are way over reacting. this would not have even been on my radar. Do you wear gloves when you pick up your cell phone? because based on your reaction at DD you should probably be wearing a Hazmat suit whenever you get near your phone.

You made yourself look bad at DD, if that matters to you and maybe it doesn't. but the next time you go in there you'll be "that guy".

I'll never be in that DD again because it's not in my area. How hard is it to put on a lid without touching the small area that you drink from?
Do you go to coffee shops where you put on your own lid? Do you ever wonder who's touched that lid that's sitting out there on the counter with the sugar and stirrers?

Who eats at Burger King?

Everyone realizes the health code violations and general grossness of the fast food and restaurant industry more generally. I'm a little surprised that folks aren't bothered by a stranger rubbing their bare hand all over the mouthpiece of the lid. That's all.

That's why you never take the first lid.

Yes, this is unique to Burger King. Way to miss the point.

Don't go around with this 'tude at all the places you eat, OP. You'll end up with much more than an eye roll and some hand germs.

And you obviously didn't read the entire post.

Newsflash: people are typically smart enough to avoid questioning/complaining until after they've received their coffee/food.

The small coffee shops I go to don't serve with a lid; you walk over and dress your coffee and put your own lid on.

And the lids magically get to the rack by themselves! Employees and other patrons never touch them.

Why don't you take the lid off to drink the coffee? I always take the lid off.
