Rhinoplasty for bulbous nose?

Anonymous
I had one at age 34 after thinking about it for years. Like you, I am slim with otherwise small features. Like you, mine was bulbous at the tip and a bit wide. I was very specific with my surgeon, Steven Hopping, about what I was after, which was not a cute, upturned nose. Now, ten years later, I am still pleased with the results. It looks refined and natural. He took pictures of me and used software to show me possible results, and I was able to have direct input on the end result. Go for it!

Not OP, but I would love to know about recovery and the surgery. Like OP, I am petite but with a big nose that is starting to droop as I get older. It is straight and the bridge is not wide, but it is a bit long (projects too far), wide and droopy now. Doesn't fit the rest of my face which is petite and regular.

How long did you have bruising and how long was it obvious you were post surgery?

This is completely wrong. I had one and it did wonders for my looks AND my self-esteem. You have to do your homework and choose your surgeon very carefully. Look at a lot of the doctor's before and after pics; talk to references if you can. Be very clear with the doctor about what you want and what you don't want.

+1000

I had my nose narrowed and bump removed when I was 16. It improved my self esteem so much. I am so glad I did it.

That said, I went in for something subtle and I kind of wish I had been more aggressive. I don't know if my nose grew back per se or I just made such a subtle change that it's not all that noticeable. Maybe I'd be more unhappy if I had not done it. I just wish I had been a little braver and done more.
I had an excellent surgeon - Dr. Dean Jabs in Bethesda and he has an office in McLean as well.

Does DH know about it? What about your children? Do they have your old nose?

PP here. It depends on your ethnicity (I mentioned earlier). My Persian friends recovered in about two weeks, total. Nose jobs are big in my community. My white friends seemed to have bruising a little longer, it might have to do with skin pigment. I don't know about recovery for my AA friends, they usually have their nose made less wide. We usually have a convex nose made straighter (not concave necessarily, but definitely straighter - the bump taken out). You would have to find the kind of doctor who specializes in what you want, specifically.

Just don't get it too narrow or else you'll look like Michael Jackson. Go for subtle change like JLo or Kim K.

Recovery is easy. It's not a joint, and you're not moving it, so paid meds for a few days and you're good to go. I had some bruising around my eyes, but was back to work the next week, and probably could have gone back sooner. Really, very easy recovery. Now, foot surgery, totally different story.

Recovery is fairly straightforward. Pain meds for a few days. Within a week or so, I could go out to eat and it would not be noticeable to someone I didn't know like the server. It took longer (say 2 weeks) before I was comfortable enough to be around co-workers. I felt fine even 3 or 4 days afterwards but really conscious of bumping my nose in any way and the swelling and bruising under my eyes (worst black eyes ever fading to various shades of yellow) was pretty obvious until then even with makeup. Saying that, it takes a year or more until the final result is known as swelling (especially on the tip) takes a long time to fully heal.

Anonymous wrote:nose jobs to me arent even like plastic plastic surgery. It's not implanting or injecting anything. I view it as fixing. but I am part arab. I say go for it. BUT, try to find a person with a good nose job to refer you.

A great deal of plastic surgery involves no injections/implants.

Different kind of nose job. She didn't have a bulbous nose, I doubt the tip was narrowed much, if at all. She had more of a bump on the bridge, which is much easier to correct.

I have a few friends that went to Dr. Olding at GW and their noses turned out beautiful and very natural looking.
