How old was your child when s/he started daycare?

12 weeks older, 10 weeks younger.

I own a daycare and several babies have started at 13 weeks. So tiny.

5 months at the daycare in my office (downtown fed center). She got sick a lot (started in the fall) but otherwise did fine. I was able to visit and nurse her during the day, which helped me with the transition but really, she would have been fine either way. At 2.5 she loves "school."

We've watched a lot of kids start daycare for the first time at age 1.5-2 and they are a mess. Bawling all day for weeks. I get why parents wait - they certainly benefit more from the structure and stimulation after 1, but those poor kids really have a hard time getting acclimated.

DS1 started daycare at four months and DS2 just started recently at two months. I definitely wish I'd had more leave time for DS2. He seems to be doing fine, but he is so little compared to the other babies. My one consolation is that the center is close enough for me to feed him at lunch time, so I go see him at lunch every day.

Four months and six months for my DDs. It's been so great for them. A small center in DC.

4 months with the first and will be 5 months with second. I feel sad for the mothers and babies that have to go sooner than 12 weeks but I realize some have no choice. Personally, there is just no way that I could leave my 6 week old with ANYONE.

Well now that previous poster has permission to be defensive.

Both DDs were 4 months. We found a center-based daycare that we LOVE, and are so grateful for the wonderful experience.

It's a tough transition, no matter what you do. Make the best decision you can, and let yourself go through the process of thoughts and feelings about it. Know that the day will come when you feel really great about their fun day with friends, and your good day doing good work. Pickup will be there before you know it, and you'll have a great evening at home.

Good luck!

I must not love my child as much as you love yours.

Why are you so defensive? You did what worked for you.

She is defensive because she knows she put her kids in daycare very young and feels guilty.

14 weeks at a center across the street from my office. Best decision we ever made. 12 weeks as a SAHM was about all I could take, then my mom came to watch DD for two weeks while I transitioned back to work.

We've been at the same daycare for two years now and her caregivers are truly angels on earth.

We didn't do an in home daycare, but rather a non-chain daycare (like, not Bright Horizons or La Petite Academy). He stayed there for three years until we moved from DC to Montgomery County. Now DW works from home and he's in pre-school 3 days a week for 3 hours a day. Honestly, I think full day was better for him, but we're still adjusting.

How does that with your son only attending 3 days 3 hours a day? I’m guessing your WFH wife watches him all the other times? If so, how does she get work done? Not judging but we keep our add Hine one day a week while we both WFH and it’s been challenging!

DD started at 6 months at a center and DS will start at close to 7 months.

8 weeks. 0 problems.

6 months for first, 5 months for second. Our center takes kids starting at 6 weeks (though most seem to start between 3 and 6 months).
