When should a boy know how to stand up to pee?

My boys have always peed standing up. Never did it sitting down.

I have no interest in cleaning my bathroom floor that thoroughly 5x/day.

Huh? My 2 yr old has been potty trained for 2 weeks and stands. "Turn the water yellow!" Not that complicated.

Well, you earn a urine colored star. Report back to us when your DC hits elementary school.

I have an older kid too. He sat for the first 6 months but has never had this issue, either.

Another poster earning a "urine colored star". My now almost 6 year old only pees sitting down when he has to poo. We used the cheerio/frootloop method with a step stool when necessary and rarely have "misses". Never occurred to me to not teach a boy how to pee standing up.

Never occurred to me that you actually had to teach a boy how to pee standing up.

My 4 yo has been peeing standing up since 2.5 or 3yo. His dad taught him, for the first year he peed standing up in the baby potty, then he peed in the toilet standing on a stool until he got big enough to pee without the stool. Have your kid pee in the potty or standing on a stool, OP.

LOL!

No urine colored star for me. Both boys learned to pee sitting down.

I wish someone would tell my FIL this. Our bathrooms start to reek like a bus station restroom after he's been at our house for a day.

Maybe a funnel would help?

Never? When he wants to?
The men in my family sit.
My son sits.
It's the civilized way to pee!

He isn't even great at always remember to push his penis down in the toilet.

Always. Why would you teach a boy to pee sitting down?

Why would anyone teach a boy to pee sitting down? Because I have better things to do than cleaning the bathroom multiple times a day. Standing up is fine when they can do it with no mess.

My kid learned at around 2.25--he'd been potty trained a couple months but we were with friends who had older boys and at an outdoor festival. The dads took all 3 boys over to the woods and they all peed. My kid didn't want to sit down anymore after that.

I find that it's much neater, actually--sitting down, he has to remember to point his penis down and sometimes the pee shoots out between the seat and the toilet and makes a big mess. Standing (first on a step stool, til he's tall enough) the target area is a lot bigger.

We also taught him to grab a disinfecting wipe from under the sink and wipe up the floor if any pee missed the toilet. He can now do that successfully (just turned 4).

2.5 He has a little stool in the bathroom he uses to stand on. No aim problems.

Just a couple months after he was potty trained (so 2.5 ish). He actually went from sort of potty trained to pretty much potty trained once he discovered standing. I guess it's just more appealing or something (his twin sister was bummed for awhile that she wasn't able to stand too). We never "taught" him but on a vacation he saw dad and grandpa both standing a few times and figured it was what he wanted to do too.

(He's closing in on 3 and still waits for an evening diaper to poop though, so we are clearly not there yet or earning any stars ourselves.)

The men in your family are women.

My son is just over 3 and started standing about a month ago, 3 mos post potty-training - but he still sits sometimes. It just happened one day - he said "I want to stand up" - and I had visions of pee going all over but he did it just fine. He's in daycare during the day and I think he must've seen kids doing it there. Truthfully he's only peed on the floor twice since doing it so it turned out to be much less of a big deal than I thought it would be.

b/c it keeps a cleaner bathroom and easier to potty train. What you've never met a boy that hasn't peed and pooped in the same trip to the bathroom?

2.5 and always a perfect aim. He was born a gentleman though, never even peed on us as an infant.

as a preschool teacher I thank you 1000 times over for teaching your boy to sit. seriously. you'd be amazed at the amount of pee on the walls and floor because boys are standing to pee
