If you want him to dress to impress the rest of the kindergarten set, get him a couple of graphic Ts, especially if he doesn't own any already.

Minecraft, Pokemon and Star Wars/lego Star Wars are the coolest

Uh, hardly. Try Under Armour.

He is Kindergaten. The kindergartners are all into characters and have zero interest in Under Armour.

That is more for the mid to older elementary kids through middle school.

This is a great idea. Hanna Anderson has great star war pjs that you can get them around thanksgiving for 20 dollars. My son loves wearing his darth vader pj to school. he has Darth Vader robe to match, too.

I'm enjoying this in-depth discussion of specific trends for boys through early elementary. Everyone who says "boys don't care about their clothes" needs to rethink that idea!

I teach K and see all sorts of styles. Characters are definitely still in... Minecraft, Star Wars, and I expect to see a lot more Pokemon this year. Plenty of Under Armour/soccer apparel, especially if there are older siblings, but it's not the uniform that it is in upper grades. I see lots of soccer pants with character tees. I teach at a very diverse school, and there is a pocket of one ethnicity that definitely dresses to impress every day. Some of the boys wear button up shirts, or complete matching outfits. Sneakers every day.

I think the general rule in K is... anything goes. Check in with your grandson's parents to see what they think or what he specifically likes.

My son is 6 and he likes both. I don't buy a lot of character shirts out of my preference but most of the boys wear either athletic clothing or the character teeshirts.

My 6 year old has no idea what under armour or any other brand is. He likes owls, star wars and soccer. He'll be going into 1st.

just you wait... my son came home asking for "a check mark shirt" (Nike)

I do agree though that most kids want the above.

I agree. I HATE that character crap on things and will not buy. I'm not alone b/c I rarely see it on kids at school

+1 I bought my kid a lot of UA, Adidas and Nike a few years ago on major clearance. He much prefers it now. He knew at 5-6 the differences. UA wears well so I'm ok continuing to buy it.

For us, it's one of those "pick your battles." There are other things that I want to make the decision on. If I concede on things such as what clothes they wear, I'm more likely to have less battle over other areas where I really don't want to fight over it.

Have a set of button down baggy style Pjs for pajama day, not the tighter knit style kind.

In K this past year, my DS like Star Wars graphic ts (regular and star wars), got really into some athletic type shirts (like DC United and Nationals) especially by the end of the year, and my mom got him some UA shirt he likes. I LOVE the hoodies from Tea and he likes them too. But honestly he also would've ben absolutely fine with plain and striped ts from Old Navy for the most part.

Let his mom pick out his clothes. Ask her what she likes and offer to treat.

My son just turned 7 and is not at all aware of brands. He just likes shirts with what he sees as cool designs on them-- vicious-looking animals, trains, pirates, etc. He also really likes his field day shirts and shirts from places we've visited (eg, a national park or city). Thus far, he has no interest in Star Wars or super heroes. So, OP, it really depends on your grandson's interests.

Why can't a grandparent pick out clothes?

We have a family friend who sends us clothing all the time. Its wonderful and my kid loves what she picks. I'd be thrilled if grandma bought some.

Little Lord Founterloy clothing, obviously.

Tights, knickers and the like.

Golf wear for casual times.
