How can 20 somethings in college/right out of college afford to live in 2k a month buildings in DC?

My parents paid for pretty much everything until I was 24.

Mine had athletic scholarships so full ride. We gave a car, paid gas and insurance, paid for food, clothes, rent, furnished the apartment. Both kids had a room mate so utilities were split. We paid phone, internet, they paid cable.

After 4 or 5 years, they were on their own. Worked out.

Well today they stay on their parents cell phone family plan. In DC comcast has great cheap deals for internet 50/cable/and maybe hbo for 50/month. That is for new subscribers so they qualify.

In some large buildings utilities are inc and when move in they get furniture cheap off building message boards selling stuff-just move it around the freight elevator.

Maybe 3 or 4 in a 2 bedroom and spend 800/month.

I made almost $100K my first year out of undergrad. It's not unusual for people who went to great schools, and this area attracts lots of those people. Don't hate.

Name just one profession that pays 21-year-olds from HYP $100,000 a year in Washington DC.

We will wait and file our nails while you struggle to make up something plausible.

At 21 I stayed in a small one bedroom with a friend from high school, 3 years later we had both gotten raises and moved out but the first few years we split $1500 rent and were actually both able to save and live well on small salaries. Good luck!

My husband and I both finished grad school at 24 (got married that June a week after finishing) and each started jobs around $65k. We didn't have student loans or car payments, so $2k/month was easy.

Again I stress...

If you look at the reviews of many of these newer buildings you will see residents complaining about the under 25 year olds having loud rooftop pool parties, playing loud music at all hours of the night, passing out and vomiting in the hallways and elevators.

So you mean to tell me this is what you were doing as a 22 year old?

When my parents got divorced, it was agreed my father would pay my mother child support while I was in school. All school. When my relationship with my mother deteriorated, my father gave me the child support. That's how I could pay for a nice apartment while in college.

No parent help with expenses but they helped with college so no loans and that was a big deal. We hire for 65-70 now. Engineers. Without many other expenses they can afford $2 for rent esp if they have no loans.

The under 25 year olds in these buildings are responsible adults holding down full time jobs?

Where are these buildings and where do you find the reviews?

I also didn't go to HYP thought many people I worked with did. There are about 20 top schools with great on campus recruiting...

This is exactly what I was doing at 22, and I was holding down a full time job at the same time.
