My personal thought is that a pool day is kind of a wasted opportunity because you could do a hotel pool anywhere. But at the same time, you don't want overtired kids. I would combine pool day with a dinner at Disney Springs (formerly known as Downtown Disney) because it's free to get to, and is inside WDW so will feel like you're starting your Disney trip without having to pay any admission.

+1 Don't let the Disney fanatics plan your vacation! Taking a pool day is fine. Going to legoland is fine. No you won't get to see and do everything at Disney but I'm not sure why that matters so much to people. You can always go another time if you want.

It's just not very cost-effective to do it that way, and it's a lot of hassle with the driving. WDW is huge and beautiful and there's plenty to do there for 10 days, so no reason to traipse off to Legoland.

2 days at MK and 1 day at Animal Kingdom would be perfect, with a pool day thrown in.

For you and your family but they may enjoy Legoland more.

Not with kids under 7. Legoland is perfect for elementary age kids, more like 7-10 or so. I mean, its fine for a day, but I certainly wouldn't prioritize it over WDW if my kids were under 7; there is tons more for them to do at the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and even Epcot and Hollywood Studios (shows and things).

We just did a similar length trip last spring and had a much better time at Legoland than MK with kids ages 6 and 3. Lines were much shorter and no need to worry about fast passes and everything else. It was great! We spent one day at Legoland, then the next morning at the Legoland water park, then drove to Disney for check in time at our resort. Next day at MK and then went home the following day.
