BBC coverage is on TV too. Better than any of our cable news.

Can't wait to see how the BO and Kerry spin this. They have had so much so much successful foreign policy in the area. Egypt, Libya, Syria, Iraq , Yemen, Iran and now a NATO member Turkey.

I know, right?. If Obama had done a better job with foreign policy, Erdogan wouldn't have had protests throughout his country, tourism in free fall, and been accused of acting authoritarian.

NBC reports Germany refused, now thought to be heading to London. But this all appears to be a self-confirming Twitter vortex, nothing is really known.

I really am having trouble believing our news. This could not be a "complete surprise" to us. I'm certain intelligence knew and we decided not to step in because a secular military coup is in our best interest. Erdogan has been playing lip service to the west but not following through.

Does Turkey not have term limits? He may have been democratically elected, but this is frightening...

The Independent, Friday 18 March 2016: President Erdogan says freedom and democracy have 'no value' in Turkey amid arrests and military crackdown. Dozens of activists, politicians and academics have been detained in Turkey as discussions continue over the refugee crisis.

Not all of the military agrees with the coup. I don't know how much is for or against, I guess we'll all find out as this plays out.

I'd be interested to hear what's the situation at the southern Turkey air base where the US has a presence.
