Cake & Ice Cream--fork or spoon, bowl or plate?

So stop arguing with your dh about utensils and start talking flavors...can we help choose those??

Well, we know there is one that would harshly judge the nutritional excess of more than one sweet a day.

But for the most part, "let them eat cake" or cake & ice cream however they want.

But my husband would probably grab a plate & fork.

Same in our house, hubby & I have to agree to disagree.

I tend to use a bowl and/or spoon for lots of things. Spaghetti a bowl with a fork, mashed potatoes with a spoon, pudding a bowl with a spoon. To really throw a curve, if it is only ice cream, that goes in a big coffee mug with a spoon.

+1

This is also how I typically eat cereal.

Spoon please. Don't care about bowl v plate so long as you don't mind me tipping my to scoop up the melty bits.

No. No. No.

Icecream is eaten out of a carton. Bonus points if you finish an entire Ben and Jerry's.

Coffee mug. Pfft.

Plate and fork, but this assumes the ice cream is a small scoop that ijust sort of complements the cake. large scoop of ice cream that would start melting befor you eat it means bowl and spoon. But I would not turn down any combination.

I will eat it any way it is served!! I am not picky! Love cake and ice cream!

My husband always eats ice cream from the carton with a fork... So strange but I think he does it to dig out the chunks of goodness that he wants.

I prefer cake with fork. Like PP said, if there is more cake than ice cream, plate and fork. For me, more ice cream = bowl and spoon.

PP who said only one, not both: no way!

Bowl and fork. I hate the plate/spoon combo.

Cake by itself? Fork and plate.

Ice cream by itself? Carton and spoon. Obviously.

I'm from a world where you only eat one sweet in a day.

You do half a serving of each! Duh. And I don't even eat sweets and I know this.

Stupidest thread ever.

My mother's sterling silver flatware includes ice cream forks. They have a broad bowl like a spoon but with a tine in the middle. Google it and you'll see what I mean.

That's what she puts out if ice cream is served with cake or pie. These "forks" work very well that I'm surprised they're not more common. And someday they will be mine

Speaking of tradition, she only serves ice cream with cake if the cake has no frosting, like a plain chocolate cake or pound cake. I do the same as well. And I love a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a warm chocolate cake, especially if the cake is slightly runny in the middle like a reine de saba. But I judge no one who does differently.
