| I can't find a clip but I remember when he was running for mayor he was heckled by an older man yelling "but are you a weiner or a hot dog?!" Over and over again. How is he the last to know that he is a joke. |
Ha. I was PP who posted they have an arrangement, and, given recent events, that seems pretty clearly to be the case. I must admit to being curious about why Huma agrees to the arrangement. Perhaps, she has seen it work out for her mentor Hillary, so it seemed like a good idea? http://gawker.com/report-anthony-weiner-still-bad-at-flirting-1785252218 |
| I loved it and thought it was fascinating. He's magnetic and terrible at the same time. I thought he showed enough self-awareness about his failings that you could sort of understand why she has stayed. |
| I think she stayed for many reasons, not least that she was raised in a culture where male infidelity is largely tolerated. |
| But he is still doing it! And they are still together. It seems very likely that she allows it on some level. Why? |

This thread reminded me to watch the film. Wow. Started feeling sorry for him until the end when his true colors showed, and even chided Huma for not making appearances. After all she did and staying by his side...
I was also surprised by Huma. Always imagined her to be a visibly strong, type A go-getter, and was not expected her to project such a meek, quiet, subservient presence. Wonder how they're doing now. What are his options, since his political career will not rebound? |
| Am I crazy or did Huma look pregnant at the end? |
I didn't see her as meek in the film at all. I read her as trying to stay as blank as humanly possible on camera, to avoid giving them any material. |
OK, entirely possible. But she sounded so subdued the whole time. Even at the press conference, she didn't project the confidence I'd expect from someone in her position. I really wanted her to tell him off. |
The Clintons marriage was never for love. It is, and was always, clearly a political/business relationship. She used him |
Her life is beyond respectable, but her life also has this dead weight that everyone knows about. She seems like she just works hard on her image. It's silent, but it's definitely a powerful image. To the PP that mentioned the fundraising calls, and advice to comm person, she definitely came out to be manipulative. Every scene (except for when she gave a statement on behalf of her husband), her hair, makeup, and clothes were perfect. Towards the end, it made my stomach hurt to watch her silent, but you can see how mad she is in her eyes. When she's in his office and they're showing the news and the random pictures of his junk. She wants to explode, but is staying calm because of the camera rolling. So so hard to watch. I really want to understand her more. She's had the same role since she was a baby (college), and I often wonder if she ever figured out her true identity. Also, my husband brought up a good point, Huma and Anthony are both career politicians. This is all they know. He questioned what was real and what was fake for the documentary. |
They're all so short-sighted.
