Do colleges have high school caps/quota?

Harder to be in the top 10% at a school with mostly high performers. I think lots of colleges would like to see strong class rank as it makes their stats look good. Always thought that was silly given the huge differences in high schools around the country.

In FCPS there is no ranking. I don't know about the other are districts.

Some schools still have binding early admission.

No ranking in Arlington either but the UVA admissions officers know Virginia high schools inside and out and can determine who is in top 10% at each high school regardless. And good scores and top 10% is not enough to "guarantee" acceptance.

Signed a mom with 2 sons in top 10% at W-L with similarly high SAT scores and one was accepted and one was not.

One would hope that schools would not hold it against kids just because their parents chose to live in, say, a protected bubble like north Arlington. UVa, William and Mary, etc., know where their bread is buttered, that is, where to get the critical mass for a smart-enough class: northern VA.
