How to Book Outer Banks for a Weekend this Summer

No offense, PP, but OP is looking for July. You can't compare traveling to NC in November. i'd say 6.5 hours in July IS having traffic gods on your side.

I'm a native North Carolinian (different from the other one on this thread) who has been transplanted to DC.

It doesn't matter on the time of year, if you leave early enough, my time frame fits.

I never met anyone who went for a weekend from DC area unless they were going to check on something on the property they owned.

Well, you keep insisting on it and everyone else on here is disagreeing with your timeframe for July.
I know who I'd listen to if I were OP....

You drive 6 + hours on a Fri and 6 + on a Sunday to camp in a tent for 2 nights? Really one considering the drive on Fri after work.

+1

We leave at 4am and it takes 4.5-5.5 hours to get to Duck (the lower part). With the 64 construction though all bets are off this summer.

I don't go to NC for camping, but I do head north for 6-8 hrs for some long weekend camping trips in PA and NY - we leave Thursday at lunchtime and come back Sunday afternoon.

Expand your rental to 4 days. Or stay at a beachfront hotel like maybe SeaRanch or the Blue Heron or Ramada.

Call SunRealty, tell them what you need. They always have homes that did not rent out available last minute. Will be easier with a 3-4 night rental, not just 2 nights. Otherwise use a hotel.

Wouldn't plan a trip around rolling those dice.
