Would you choose your career over love?

Seriously! Can someone enlighten me!

When I joined the foreign service, all of the men had just gotten engaged to girls who couldn't wait to be an international housewife! All of the women had just gotten
dumped by guys who were lawyers and doctors and engineers and who couldn't imagine following their wives around the world. Most of the women there had chosen
the career over love. Many of them never married.

Why are men marrying girls?

Why, indeed

I think this example is more about lifestyle than career per se. Moving every two to three years is not everybody's idea of a life. Nor is being an international housewife in Ouagadougou. Don't even get me started on children's schooling. FS is not a career; it's more like its own universe. Either the whole family joins, or nobody does

Love doesn't pay the bills. Most men would state yes, most women would state no.

I chose career over love. I wasn't the type to selflessly follow a man in pursuit of his career ambitions. I had my own ambitions. Geographic disconnect. It would never have worked long term, but he remains one of my greatest loves. It hurt bad. Butt hurt. I cried for years.
