Website Feedback
Um, sorry you have this issue as well as narrow mindedness and a penchant for being controlling towards others despite living in a free country. You should work on yourself, yes. |
| It would also be helpful to those of us that "homeschool" the preschool years. |
That is not really homeschooling that's parenting |
|
I just created a homeschooling forum. Let's see how it goes.
|
Thanks! I will try and support the forum. - HS Mom of 10+ yrs. |
| Jeff - has there been any new stuff since you created the Homeschooling forum? It seems pretty dormant. |
Thanks! |
I think there has been one post. Unfortunately, I can't say that I'm surprised. As I said in my first post in this thread, I think there have been more posts in Website Feedback asking for a home schooling forum then there have been home schooling posts. I'll give the forum time for the advocates to prove me wrong, but I am kind of pessimistic about that forum. |
Is having a less busy forum a bad thing for the site? Just curious. |
There is a significant chunk of users who don't like having a lot of forums. So, I try to keep the list of forums limited to those with a reasonable amount of traffic. Sometimes I keep a low-traffic forum around because I expect it to grow in the future. That's what happened with Older Kids which was slow for years and now has had to be divided into two different forums. But generally, if I want to add a new forum, I look for a slow forum to remove. I don't know if anyone noticed, but I removed the Meetup forum in order to create the Homeschooling. I added playgroups (which was part of Meetups) to the Camps forum and we no longer have a forum for meet ups. |
| Please don't ever take away Lawns and Gardens, Real Estate or Home Improvements. They are currently vital to my existence. Thank you. |
| As a homeschooler, I really appreciate the support!!! but I don't think we really need our own forum. The recommendations to people looking to get into homeschooling are usually to subscribe to Sharenet and then use that to find out about what's going on in the area, as well as your local resources/groups. Then there are already well-established forums for curric like the Well Trained Mind forums. There are also tons of closed Facebook Groups and Yahoo Groups (usually listed in Sharenet), because we tend to want to keep logistical things private just for safety reasons. I think for me I wouldn't post anything here because I don't want to deal with all the closed-minded folks who say "Well, you wouldn't perform surgery on your kid so why would you not leave teaching up to the professionals" when I was just looking for a kids' sewing class or something. But it's really great that someone who doesn't homeschool would be so welcoming and open-minded. Thanks DCUM! |
I noticed it randomly while scrolling through. Is it possible to highlight it somehow? |
| Can we start a sticky thread for educational advocate recommendations in the Special Needs forum? The question comes up a lot, and I think it be useful to have a single location where we can see all the reviews, both good and bad. Also would be easier to identify sock puppets in a single thread. |
Sorry put this in the wrong place. Please disregard. |
