| Madison is a great town. It is cold, though. I didn't mind that and kinda miss it here. I definitely miss skating on ponds. |
| Texas has some crazy gun laws and I'd be nervous if my kid was there. Austin is a fun ptown, though. |

This would clinch it for me. Guns have no place on campuses. |
| Texas. |
Agreed. Colleges need to be gun free zones. That way shootings will never happen. See Virginia Tech and Umpqua Community College. |
If you could please provide me with some data on how many shootings are prevented by ordinary people carrying guns that would be great. Not sponsored by the NRA of course. |
I never said they were...? Reading is important. Fact is all major school shootings happened at schools where guns are not allowed. So sure, guns have no place on campuses, but somehow...they found their way onto campuses across the country. If you are really concerned about school shootings, perhaps online schooling would be the best fit for your child. |
Did you even read this article? "Texas will be one of eight states to allow the carrying of concealed weapons on public college campuses, joining Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah and Wisconsin, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Nineteen others ban concealed weapons on campus, including California, Florida and New York, and 23 others, including Alabama and Arizona, leave the decision to the colleges or state board of regents." If guns are a concern for OP, neither Texas nor Wisconsin are going to work... |

PP here, that was basically my thinking. Drinking is a big part of the culture there and I would assume that a school like UW-Madison has a much "safer" campus environment. Meaning that say you are walking through campus with a beer late a night and campus police spot you, they will probably ask you for your student ID, take your beer away and tell you to go home. At Texas, I would assume that the campus police are probably much more aggressive about "policing", which could mean that even stupid pranks could land a student with an infraction for breaking and entering/vandalism or something like that. College kids like to party and do stupid things. I wouldn't want to send my kid to a school where they had to be greek if they wanted to party or where if they did something dumb but ultimately harmless, it would result in them getting an infraction or arrested. I honestly don't know a lot about these schools, but I would venture to guess the student environment at Texas is probably less permissive. |
Yes I did and I thought it was odd so I did some research. https://www.wisconsin.edu/general-counsel/legal-topics/concealed-carry/ |
