Dog park bites

You are in serious denial, OP, and that makes you dangerous. You have no place owning a pitt bull if you are that ignorant.

Generally speaking, some dogs can do dog parks, some dogs can't. We have a who-knows-what-mix we got from a shelter 6 years ago, we were excited to bring him to dog parks and have him play with other dogs. Turns out he has an alpha male complex and doesn't do well in dog parks. So now we take him on long walks around the neighborhood, to Rock Creek Park for hikes and playing the water and let him run off leash in the early mornings at the open field by the rec center if no one else is around.

Enough with the pro pitbull lies.

Pitbulls and pit mixes cause the most dog bite fatalities and comprise the vast majority of violent dog attacks. That is fact. The breed is flawed.

Labs/retrievers actually have the highest number of attacks and deaths in the recent years.

And even if it's true, it's likely because there are so many more of these dogs. I'm sure it's not percentage of the breed.

You people are disgusting. Leave Pitts alone.

And stop treating the OP like her dog just killed someone. Damn.

No, we're realistic and wary of bad dog owners. Somebody who has a dog that bites who still takes them to the dog park and doesn't muzzle them is disgusting. People who don't understand how dangerous dogs can be are disgusting. And those of you defending a breed that is meant to be violent and deadly are disgusting. Not saying every dog doesn't deserve the best life possible, but it's not safe to think that they can all be "mainstreamed".

The breed isn't meant to be violent you ignorant fool . People have trained them to kill. Not their fault.

And I'm pretty sure op said she/he doesn't take their dog to the dog park regularly. Trying something does not make someone a bad fog owner. I don't agree with off leash walks but other than that nothing the op said is criminal. And you are all prosecuting.

For you to assume so based on her breed is ignorant. Its also the second time she bit another dog in 2 .5 years. Not a terrible track record. But I do want it to never happen again. Our vet said the fact that she nipped the skin both times without drawing blood is a good sign. That's her warning. That if she wanted to kill she had the means to but she doesn't. The both of us were attacked by a dog 3x her size and she didn't attack until the dog jumped on me and even then she got the dog off of me and laid over me.

I say all this because yes I get its a problem and I don't know if I could pull her off if something worse ever happened by myself.

Thanks for the helpful advice. We don't usually go to the dog park unless its empty and we had her do some pack walks that she did great on. We Also take her off leash late at night and she just runs circles.

Please don't make this a Pitt issue. I only mentioned so you know what size she is.

OP, I am 13:20. Are you taking her off leash in your yard or in a public space? If it's in a public space, please, for the safety of your dog, my dog, other dogs and their owners, and people in general, please keep your dog on a leash. This has nothing to do with her breed, only being a responsible pet owner. Your dog has bitten another dog and has no business being off leash. No dog does really, but especially a dog who is reactive and has bitten other animals. My dog also loves people and would never hurt a child or human, but he does react to other dogs, and as a responsible pet owner, I ALWAYS walk him on a leash for his safety and others'. You need to do the same, OP.

Your comment that you don't know if you could pull your dog off is really scary, OP. Please do the responsible thing before someone gets hurt or at the very least so you don't get sued and lose everything just so your dog can run off leash or go to the dog park.

Uh, yeah it does matter.

No it doesn't. It is not about the breed of the dog, it's about the owner and/or the temperament of that particular dog, not the breed of the dog.

So most pitt bull and rotweiler owners are bad dog owners? It absolutely does matter. Stop defending dangerous dogs that were bred to kill.

That pretty much includes, well, all dogs. All terriers, shepherds, etc etc etc.

That dog SHOULD NOT BE in a program with children.

No one's safety should be compromised so you can enjoy a house pet.

Be responsible for your animals, people, or get rid of them.

Yes and PLEASE remove this dog from tue childrens' hospital program. Wtf is wrong with you?

I'm done on this section you people are crazy.

For those that were helpful we are going to take her in for more training and use a soft muzzle around other dogs for a while. No dog parks.

She was specially selected for the hospital program. I didn't sign her up. She went through tests and trainings and they asked for her. So go take your precious snowflake dog out for a walk and leave mine alone.

And BTW go look up attack and bite stats for tour Golden's, labs, and chows.
