Cost of alcohol?

Mercifully, my wife drinks cheap wine, so that's $18 or so a week (thank God for Costco). On the other hand, I am of the opinion that life is far too short to drink cheap booze, so I get decent beer and good to very good bourbon.

That sounds right for us, too. We're not big drinkers, but in the summer (when I'm more active anyway) I like to have a beer more often.

At home, we probably spend $250 to $350 month average but that includes more expensive wines, boubons, scotch, and/or tequila. And, we usually have friends over 3 to 5 times a month.

That doesn't include times when I find a rare bottle of bourbon, like the Pappy 20 that I picked up last week. Those finds can add another $2000 a year or so.

What? How much you drink isn't related to your income. Maybe people with more money buy higher quality alcohol but you either drink a lot or you don't. Some of the heaviest drinkers are the poorest.

To answer your question, just about nothing. We buy a 12-pack of beer like every 3 months. Occasionally a $10 margarita at dinner (less than once a month.) Not big drinkers.

Costco has a liquor store??? Is this MD? I'm jealous

Costco has a liquor section. Never seen a store. It is probably DC since VA can only sell beer and wine and MD can't sell alcohol outside a liquor store at all.

No we get it when we are in Delaware. The Kirkland stuff is freaking great.

I know no one on DCUM will believe this, but the DC Costco is superior to the suburban Costcos (especially that shoebox in Crystal City) in every way. The expansive wine and liquor selection may be the most important way.

I believe it, but as someone who almost never drinks no way would I trek from western Fairfax to DC to shop at Costco.

About $200 per month. Dh drinks 2-3 beers a night (micro brews), and I drink about a bottle of wine per week (I order my wine online, so it's about $50-60 per month). We eat out 3-4 times per month and usually each have a drink out.

$75-100? Mostly prosecco.

OMG I just discovered this and you're right.

As to yearly costs: 3 - 5 bottles of wine approximately 15 - 20/bottle $1,170 to $2600/Yr plus beer and liquor purchases. Maybe a .bottle of bourbon a month or so, or if not bourbon, vodka. Depends what we need. We have a kegorator in the bar that we restock every 6 to 8 weeks. We routinely host parties though.

$300-$400/ month, all on wine (mostly from Trader Joe's with a couple of nicer bottles mixed in). Includes everything we drink at home, including entertaining, and the odd bottle here and there we take to a housewarming or dinner party.

Um, starting to realize we are on the extreme high end in this category

We are right there with you. I think the people posting are near teetotalers!

We spend around 200 per month, more during the holiday season. That generally breaks down to 2 bottles of wine and a six pack per week plus a couple of extra just because bottles of wine here and there. Love that DC costco for wine but we often end up overpaying at the local market instead.

We'll demolish a bottle of vodka and a bottle of tequila everybody couple of weeks.
My DW is off wine at the moment; I'd have to say the budget gets blown by going out; we went out with another couple to Joes and wound up with a $1,100.00 tab at the end of the night....I felt that one for a few days.
