What does your kid pack for school snack?

Really? You need examples of snack food? lolololol

My 4th grader said something similar this year. Turns out in the stealth lunch room trade that was rampant goldfish crackers did not garner much and she wasn't able to get candy or cookies for them.

Actually this thread has been really useful to me (new poster). I learned that many people are sending MORE snack than I have been, and got some ideas I hadn't thought of before (frozen yogurt tubes, etc). I'll definitely be upping my snack game. (Previously I almost always sent just cheez-its.)

these are our go to snack, ages 7-12 in our house. 12 year old stays after school so packs a snack for that...nuts are the first choice, organic jerky, kind, mojo or larabar, whole fruit-apple, orange, banana etc, natural pb cup with pretzel sticks, hummus with baby peppers or carrots.

-Babybel cheese
-Cheese stick
-Clementine
-Apple slices
-Grapes
-Banana
-Chobani yogurt tube (freeze the night before)
-Sesame sticks
-Pirate's booty
-Terra veggie chips
-Belvita crackers
-Kind bars
-Clif Kid's bars
-pretzel mix (plain, chocolate, yogurt)
-Mini bagel with cream cheese
-rainbow baby carrots
-shelled pistachios + craisins

Her latest thing is making her own "trail mix" which entails grabbing small portions of whatever pretzels, sesame sticks, dried fruit, and nuts we have on hand. Sometimes I'll throw in a few M&M's or chocolate chips as a fun surprise.

I volunteer in my child's K classroom during snack sometimes. They are often doing work while eating. The kids who bring Yogurt (cups or tubes) always make a mess, and the teacher or volunteer are needed to wipe it up. I think the rest of the above are great ideas, but for the people who keep mentioning yogurt, I would find out when and where the kids are having their snack, because it may not be so practical.

You mean everybody doesn't do this?

Pinterest has led me to believe that only moms who don't really care send a LARA bar and call it a day. WAIT HAS PINTEREST BEEN LYING TO ME????

A lot of you parents are packing snack bars that I know have nuts because I've checked the labels and have had a hard time finding ones that do not contain nuts or aren't made in a shared facility.

Are you in public school? Because that's not allowed and really thoughtless to the kids who have allergies.

Found out my K has been saying I forgot to pack her a snack to her teacher (which is not true) so she could get the animal crackers the teacher gives out when kids forget snack. I got a note home from school "reminding me to pack a snack" since I seemed to forget the last 10 days. 10 days this 5 yr old has been telling this tale!!! We had a LONG talk! So, I too need to revamp. I guess fruit everyday, even varied fruit, is too boring for this kiddo.

You would think after a day or two, teacher would send a note home or email if you had been packing it every day.

Right. I was mortified the teacher went so long thinking I'm a mom who couldn't get it together.

LOL my K told her teacher that the lunch I packed was her snack so she could buy lunch. So sneaky!

LOL! These kids.

Where are all of your kids in school that they can take nuts in with them? All the DC schools I've heard of are nut-free.

Also the schools that dd and our neighbors' kids are in do communal snack - parents sign up for that day or week to provide a snack for the whole class. Although they are all younger kids (K and younger) that I know - is it for upper grades that you pack a snack?

Whoa now some moms are saying yogurt is bad for kids? My picky eater will eat some yogurt most of the time and you will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands to take it away from us!

(PS: Kale chips are disgusting!)
