Just don't go down to the floor. Get some reserved seats, and have a good time. (Assuming it's a reserved seat venue. I don't know this show. If it's at a 9:30-like place, go upstairs.) |
| Bruuuuuuuuuce! Nine years old. |

I think I was 12 or 13 when I went to my first rock concert (with a friend, I think, no parents -- we were dropped off. In a pre-cell phone world!). Reserved seats, Beach Boys when they were already super old so it was a super tame crowd! (Sort of like going to an Elton John concert nowadays, I think). I also remember seeing Billy Joel (again, a drop off with a couple friends) when I had just turned 14. Again, a tame-ish concert, and a performer that my parents had heard of and weren't really concerned that it was going to be like a rave or something (not that they or I knew what a rave was).
My almost-10 year old has not yet been to a concert (other than the kids concerts at Jammin Java and the Discovery Theater, etc.), but I can imagine taking her in the next couple years if there was a band we liked. I wish I was that mom that knew the cool bands -- I have a coworker like that who is very into the local DC music scene and always took her kids to the 9:30 club. I'm just not that mom--in a parallel universe, maybe I am. |

We saw a concert at Jiffy Lube Live when she was 2. It wasn't the Doobie Brothers, but it was something along those lines. She saw the Wiggles a few times, some smaller acts and some boy bands in her tweens. We saw Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy last summer. She sees 5SOS again in a few months.
The only show I told her she couldn't see was Serj Tankian at a club in Baltimore. She was 8 at the time and I think that's too young for a club show. She finally noticed the smell of pot at the last show and asked what it was. I told her the truth. |
| Do the Wiggles Count? 2 and 5. And Dan Zanes same year. |
GREAT PARENTING! |
| DD was at at Jimmy Buffet when she was at about 8 weeks (from conception). |
Based on your response, it's safe to assume PP's kids are more cultured than you. |
| wow. My kid is 13 and she hasn't been to a contemporary concert yet. |
| I didn't take DS to Imagine Dragons. He went with a group of boys and two Dads. They had a blast! |
|
DD -- 6, Maroon 5. A lot of profanity, but I don't care.
DS -- 9, Imagine Dragons. |
|
DD -- First concert Age 2 Robyn Hitchcock
Then, age 9 The Hives at 9:30 Club |
| Pretty sure they saw the Wiggles as toddlers. |
Really wanted 8yo DD's first concert to be Adele (her absolute favourite). But that's not going to happen
|
| Miley Cyrus (right as she was transitioning out of the Hannah Montana stage) - DD age 13 |
