Nope. Not at all really. Maybe it's more of a thing with teens who don't read history?

BWAH HAHAHAHA. It's pretty true to history - Miranda took some dramatic license, but Ron Chernow fact-checked the whole thing for him.

FWIW, I love Hamilton. I majored in history and still read more nonfiction than fiction 25 years later. But if you prefer to think that only uneducated people like Hamilton, knock yourself out.

Ron Chernow has a ticket to every performance so he can watch whenever he likes. He still will give feedback on stuff.

And the people I know who love Hamilton are highly educated, well-read, and interested in history. There's definitely some dramatic license, but Miranda basically went over all of that with Chernow to explain why he was changing to facts to streamline the storytelling.

What about being into a musical because it's awesome? I have friends who love it who first saw it at the Public Theater, and others who saw it when it first came to Broadway and you could still get tickets. I mean, you can crap on it because it's popular, although that's stupid and shallow of you, but the reason that it's popular is because a lot of people think it's really good, and also something that's really good for Broadway in general.

I saw it in December, and it's fantastic. The cast is really impressive, but they are also clearly still excited to be a part of the show, so the energy is great.

Random fact: The original cast recording of Hamilton was #1 on the Billboard rap charts. II have friends who have been into rap/hip-hop for a long time, and they are really impressed with how great that aspect of it is.

I brought this up on a Grammy thread and got trolled by someone who claimed to be an expert on hip-hop, but had no idea who Talib Kweli or Mos Def are. Anyway, I think it's pertinent to this conversation and worth a read: Kweli analyzes Hamilton and discusses whether it's actually good hip-hop.

Exactly. It's popular because it's good. The quality of the show is the same regardless of who likes it or how many people like it. I hate people who think they're too cool for stuff that lots of people like.

I did too and I agree. It's really special.

We saw it in September and my whole family loves it, including both teenagers (one who isn't a big Broadway fan). I think Lin-Manuel is a force of nature and his enthusiasm for life is contagious.

You are referring to me as the troll, and I am most definitely NOT an expert in rap and hip hop. That was the point you kept missing. I know nothing about it, and that was probably why I didn't enjoy Hamilton that much.

I just saw it and it was amazing. While watching it I knew I was witnessing something truly original and brilliant. Kind of like when an artist's work changes the game and ushers in a new type of art (like Pollock or Picasso). Or even the first time I heard "Smells like teen spirit" - I loved the song and knew it was a game changer.

Oh and my 10 and 12 yo kids loved it too. My 10 yo son loved it, especially the king.
