Van Ness is a great safety, but it only goes until 1st right now I think.

I thought it would be a good safety, and got a waitlist number under 5. Somehow I never got a call....

Don't think of it as a safety unless you're friends with a secretary or similar.

Their classes aren't full. Did you call them?

No I got in another school and didn't feel like calling. But they specifically told me they would call me when a spot opened... And never did. [/quote

I think this is an indication of the value this school places on structure. As someone with a kid there (who frankly only because we had a terrible lottery draw), it confirms some of my fears. I'm not looking for an administration overlord, but I do think that structure and responsiveness = quality at some level.

JO Wilson is a pretty solid safety.

Okay, well if you were desperate and needed a safety, you would have called. Yes, they are a hot mess, admin-wise, but they are a good and safe loving option for those who don't get their first pick of the others.

Yes especially for Hill families this is a great option. In past years they've offered free aftercare for those switching to this Appletree.

Apparently there were over 100 people at their last Open House. Not sure it's a safety anymore.

I don't think they had to sign anything saying it would be on their list. Also every Van Ness parent I know is planning to lottery. Not because they don't like the school, but it is new.

They are having an Open House this Saturday from 9:00 - 12:00.

I don't think they accepted OOB for PK3 last year, or am I wrong?

We got in off the wait list OOB for PK3 last year. Didn't end up attending.

+1. Perhaps not a forever school, but I think parents would be very pleasantly surprised.

Only for IB kids, and even then last year they didn't all get in.

Seaton
Langley

Last year neither filled their PK3 cohort in the first round.

The info about Seaton is incorrect. I have in the 20s on their waitlist after the first round, and didn't get an offer for a PK3 spot til end September, well after the school year started.

Not a safety--again, I was on the waitlist after the first round and didn't get an offer til a few weeks after school started (no inbounds preference).

Eh. Not really. I can't get a straight answer out of my PKer's teacher. Drives me up the wall. If they go outside for recess today it'll be the first day in well over a month, despite some relatively warmer temperatures lately.
