op: After my mom left, I created distance. I brought my expectations down to zero. My mom acted angry at me for another year and a half. During the last 6 months, she and I have made up. She visits 2-3 times a year. I have asked her to stay in my house only if my dad is not with her, otherwise stay in a hotel. Maybe this is mean to my dad, but he has been completely selfish, and I have not had any type of guests since my son got sick.

I'm sorry, Op. It sound like you are under a lot of stress. Just do what you need to do to get your family through this difficult period. I don't have guests to my house, either. People don't understand your situation unless they have gone through something similar. Hire whatever help you can afford and make do on that.
