Where is your crucifix hung in your home? And other religious pieces?

Another nice Catholic thread derailed by rabid atheists and anti-Catholic bigots. What a surprise! Doesn't even help to report to Jeff.

Actually, it did. I reported the first Atheist troll and Jeff deleted it and have gotten that result on other threads. Jeff does not actively patrol Christian threads for dissenters or folks just here to attack or slander as he actively patrols any thread related to Islam, but he will delete if you report an out of line post. Frankly, if he were to patrol the Christian bashers with the same energy and thoroughness as he patrols the Islam threads, he would have no time to do anything else.

The atheist who is obsessed with Christians keeps posting, report him. Jeff might delete some of the posts.

I would think if the atheist troll truly believed Christianity was all fairy tales, myths and flying spaghetti monsters he would either ignore it like a rataional person or just shake his hesd and smile at all the unenlightened posters, but he doesn't. He actively seeks out Christian threads (and only Christian threads, not islamic threads or UU threads for example) so he must not be as secure in his beliefs as he pretends to be.

Another atheist DH with a lapsed Catholic DW. She has a couple of very pretty crucifixes that she hung above doors in bedrooms. Just a piece of art as far as I'm concerned, but they are important to her. The paintings sound beautiful. Wouldn't bother me from a religious perspective because, again, to me it's just beautiful art. In the same vein, she understands why I have a little statue of Baphomet on my desk and send checks to the Satanists legal fund to support their fights against Christians who have such difficulty understanding the meaning of the 1st Amendment

This is so interesting. So you're an atheist who thinks that pranks against Christians (only) are productive ways to engage. And you're male (actually that has always seemed obvious from your posts).

Are you the troll who disrupts most threads about Christianity with shallow silliness.

----

Are you the troll who disrupts most threads by complaining about atheist comments? one who is completely hung up on horas and mithras.

Groundhog! Is it you?

In any case, we'll take that as a "yes," that you're the disruptive atheist troll. (No, I'm not the poster who coined the term "Groundhog" and keeps using it, but I find her response to your annual Horus and Mithras nonsense hilarious.)

Please can I beg your indulgence, and since you're under the cover of anonymity, to ask you a few questions?!

Here's the paradox of your behavior. Disrupting nativity displays at the courthouse is materially different from trolling DCUM threads. The first is a constitutional issue, as you say, and in fact I'm 100% with you on the constitutional issue (although I wouldn't address it by being obnoxious and juvenile, instead I'd hire serious lawyers). The second, trolling DCUM to disrupt conversations about religious imagery, has no constitutional rationale and you're free to leave any time or just not open the thread. In fact, by trolling here, you're disrupting the freedom of speech of posters here to discuss things like religious imagery in their houses. So, here are my questions for you:

1. What are you hoping to accomplish by trolling here? The courthouse hijinks have an obvious constitutional angle. But you seem to have changed direction with your trolling on a mom's chat board--no constitutional issue here. What's it to you that people want to discuss religious imagery?
2. Given that you're accomplishing nothing here besides making an ass out of yourself (deliberately or no), don't you ever wonder whether you should be spending your time more productively? Like, I dunno, going outside to enjoy the unseasonably nice weather, or taking up golf or something? Because honestly, dear Groundhog, your bombastic and shallow (cf Horus and Mithras) and just plain rude approach makes people roll their eyes instead of taking you seriously. I doubt you've made a single convert to atheism.
3. Do you only troll Christian threads? It sure seems like it. Why do you have a special animus for Christians?
4. What does your wife with the religious imagery think about your trolling here? Does she know about it?

TIA!

You're actually combining two posters. The one who talked about Mithras and who I assume you're calling "Groundhog" is not the same as the poster who has a lapsed Catholic wife and has crucifixes in his home. I'm the latter.

I did not troll. I answered the question about where the crucifixes and other religious imagery are in my house. It just so happens that one of the religious icons on my house is a small statue of Baphomet. Then I responded to posts that were responding to mine.

Crucifix in 2 bedrooms, kids' bedroom all have a statue of Mary and rosary beads, several religious cards on fridge, papal blessing in hallway, decorative cross in living room . . . That's all I can think of right now.

It takes away the presumption that anyone reading the title has one. Most people don't.

Wow, just wow. I would not be offended if I saw a post titled "how many of your doorframe have a mezuzah?" I wouldn't think the OP assumed everyone has a mezuzah. I wouldn't need the modifier "Jews:" at the start of the title. I certainly would not click the thread just to write douchy replies.

But you will write douchy replies to douchy replies.

Former Catholic, now more new-agey progressive Christian. Many fingers pointing to the same moon, etc.

No crucifix. It's creepy. I wouldn't hang an electric chair or lethal injection needle in my home either. We do have Rosary Beads from Jerusalem. Tibetan Prayer Beads. A happy Buddha picture. A picture of Jesus smiling. Native American Prayer Wheel. Crystals. Objects that are sacred to us. And tons of religious texts from many faiths.

But no instruments of torture in our home.

Crucifixes in every bedroom, small angel in kids rooms, children older than 7 have medals of their patron saints.

Watch out -- there's an instrument of torture right at the beginning of your rosary beads

Wait, your fiancé? You have that much Catholicism going on and you are living in sin with children?

I caught that too, that's why I thought it was a joke post.

The one over the bed would be a huge turn off to me. Crucifix birth control.

Do you post stuff like this on threads about Jewish, Muslim, or Hindu homes, too? Or do you just want to insult Christians?

Do you teach your kids that the best way to handle someone who's teasing them is to react and show the teaser how much it bothers them?

Your definition of teasing is quite different from mine. That post goes way beyond teasing. It also suggests the state of mind of the poster.

Non-Catholic here. Can you explain to me why the crucifix is put over the bed?

I'm 15:12 and I'm also the poster with St. George near the front door. I've reported many cases of clear-cut trolling and obvious abuse, especially anti-Catholic bigotry (I'm not Catholic myself). I think maybe once a post was deleted. So I don't bother reporting either. But since I'd like to be able to have some real conversations here, and the troll(s) make that impossible, I'm going with shame. I've watched these threads for several years and ignoring the trolls doesn't work, they just amp up the bad behavior in desperate attempts to get noticed. Maybe shame will cause some much-needed self-reflection?

+1. That's what I thought! I'm not Catholic and don't know what half of that stuff is or means, but I do know that Catholics don't think you should be shacking up!

No joke. Our priest knows. He knows that we have extenuating circumstances and are in the annulment process. He's less judgy than random strangers on DCUM I guess.
