We live in the Midwest; my parents are in the DC area, and DH's parents are in NY. Our siblings are in NY, PA, and CA. My parents visit us more than we visit them, because they have more flexible schedules (retired) and can more easily afford the travel. MIL has health issues that keep her close to home, so if we want to see the ILs, we have to go to them. We also travel to visit DH's extended family--grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins--because they all live within three hours of each other in California, so it's like one-stop shopping. ![]() We wish that our siblings would come visit us, but unfortunately none of them can really get it together to do so. |
It's the downside of being the youngest in the family and the last to reproduce--no one will drive to you. When they had young kids and we didn't, we had to drive to them, because "it's hard to travel with the littles." Fine. But now that we have an infant and they have school age kids, they also pull the "it's too hard to travel what with the kids' schedules" BS. So the short answer is, not very often. |
Ok, 01:01 - my choices are suffer through this so my kids can see their most-likely-dying-soon grandfather and their cousins....or divorce.
I don't really wish to raise my kids alone. So I suffer through this for now. My husband knows I am unhappy about it, but it's his family. There really isn't another option right now. |
