I would stay as long as the kid is ok. Next time, hotel. |
OP you are correct. It is a health issue. I'd stay in a hotel, no question. If your MIL is offended she is offended that you are protecting the health of your child. All parents should do that! I'd rather have ILs that drink themselves silly than smoke. Sure, drunk ILs can be unpleasant, but their drinking doesn't affect my health (or that of my kids) the way second hand smoke impacts my health and the health of my kids with Every. Single Breath. Really, smoking around other people is just so selfish. And no, I don't understand it at all. (Sorry for the rant). |
This happened to me as well. My father was smoking in his room, possibly cracking the window when he was smoking??? Everything came home smelling of cigarettes, so gross! Never again! |
We bought a house from smokers. It took years to get rid of the smell. Even if your mil doesn't smoke while you are there, the house will still feel from smoke smell. |
OP, have you ever actually discussed her not smoking when you guys visit? I would politely say "I'm not trying to be a pain, but I noticed you were smoking inside, if its not too much trouble, could you smoke outside while we are here? Larlo has asthma as you know and I'm terrified of an attack hiting!" I feel like its hard to get offended if you never talked to her about it. If she won't comply, then get a hotel, you'd be well with in your right. She could just be clueless. Smokers definitely become nose blind to it and I'm a former smoker. |
Probably this. The smoke smell stays in rugs and upholstered furniture for a long, long time. |
