My 1st choice is:: DC Bilingual PCS
My 2nd choice is:: Washington Yu Ying PCS
My 3rd choice is:: Creative Minds International PCS
My 4th choice is:: Bridges PCS
My 5th choice is:: Powell Dual Language
My 6th choice is:: E.L. Haynes PCS – Elementary School
My 7th choice is:: West Education Campus
My 8th choice is:: Shepherd Elementary School
My 9th choice is:: Lafayette Elementary School
My 10th choice is:: Oyster-Adams Bilingual School (Oyster)
My 11th choice is:: Shining Stars Montessori Academy PCS
My 12th choice is:: Barnard Elementary School

It would help to understand what your objective for your child is? I.e., what were your criteria in creating this list? Proximity? Curriculum/focus? Reputation? Faculty makeup?

Not the OP, but look at her map. She's IB for Barnard. She's picking well to highly regarded schools within a reasonable (a very personal metric) to her home. No mystery.

NP here, not really when you have OA and Lafayette in the mix, but Lafayette may not be that bad. I believe the OP has changed the list anyway.

Is your child already attending Barnard for PS3? If so, you don't need to lottery for it and could use your 12th spot for another school. If you are already enrolled and attending Barnard you automatically get to matriculate to the next grade unless you are offer AND ACCEPT an enrollment spot at another school.

I'm going to throw out one thing for consideration...pretty much all schools in the District except for upper NW DCPS begin at PS3. Unless the logistics/distance are a deal breaker for you, it might be a good idea to devote one or two spots to upper NW schools because they begin at PK and therefore have zero spots guaranteed for children already attending. Granted, most of those schools fill up PK with inboundary, but Lafayette, Murch, Hearst and Eaton may be possiblities (is Hearst getting PS3 next year?(. L

Depends on her most convenient access to Rock Creek Parkway, and/or whether or not she thinks an extra 5/10/15 is worth it for a given school. Considering there are families IB for Lafayette who commute all the way to Yu Ying, people are obviously willing to make certain sacrifices for a better perceived school.

PP here recommending upper NW schools...sorry, just noticed you did put Lafayette on your list.

Yes, but I agree that Lafayette is not realistic. She could add Hearst or Eaton if that worked for her commute. If she could drop her IB school because she was already there, I would add one of those. (Heck I'd add both and drop something else, if they worked for her commute.)

Glad to see someone putting EL Haynes on their list. We have been there for a few years and love it.

I think I live fairly close to you (but I'm IB for Truesdell, not Barnard) and I think you should try the commute to Shepherd before you put it on the list. We tried to figure out that commute and ended up ranking it below West and Barnard because it would have made our days so much longer.

Thank you for the suggestion. Will do.

I can't tell from your list of immersion is important to you or not. If you're not hung up on that, you could move E.L. Haynes, Shepherd, and West ahead of Bridges and Powell.

Overall, I think that's a great list.

Are you interested in just immersion? Spanish or Chinese? Not sure about #1 and #2
