I agree with all the PP's saying that you know what, it happens, and if it helps your child choose a school from a circle they were already considering, great. If it helps them to get a better education than they would have otherwise, if they weren't considering the school, great. Fact is, yes, a lot of the private schools ARE in fact better than the publics.

Look at the matriculations from town high schools in Fairfax County or Montgomery County and then size those up against the matriculation sheets of the rock jock privates. Gonzaga, Landon and Bullis. Throw in PVI too. Maybe you would be amazed at how poorly those privates size up. Or maybe you would not be shocked but are stubborn. If sports don't save you, just forget it at those privates in terms of the education serving you better.

And what if you aren't zoned to a W cluster high school, or don't live in FFX?

I get that point. If you don't live in a VA or MD town with a good PHS, or live in DC those are reasons to seek a private school.
