I am attracted to this girl

1. Yes. Someone can be married, with a kid and not "look" like it (whatever that means.).
2. I am Indian, 39, and recently got carded for an R rated movie.
3. Why would your friend be messing with you? Did it look like she was joking?

If you truly don't believe her, then try asking the interested woman vague small talk like questions. "Any exciting plans this weekend?" "Are you traveling for Thanksgiving", to see if she answers with any information - "Yes - I am taking my child to a birthday party" or "we are going to go see my inlaws, etc."

But again - I don't understand why your friend would lie about something like that.

OP, I like your suggestions. I plan to ask these questions when I see her in lunch room

To your question "I don't understand why your friend would lie about something like that"
It's possible that my friend thinks she is too good for me or she is not worth my time? I have seen this happen all the time. In colleges, girls try to keep of guys by saying they have boyfriend or going steady

Is this not common? I thought everyone does that

You're kidding, right?

Okay, I just pinged my another lady friend. I think she is in meeting. I cannot wait for her to come back. I am planning to ask the Indian girl out today for coffee after I find out more about her. I think lunch will be too much for first time

Now "lady friend" makes it sound like you are in your 60's and using a euphemism to refer to someone you are discreetly having sex with.

Mumbai is a huge city, like New York City. Very urban. So, she may dress more modern and more modern views of the world. But she could also be very traditional in her thinking - you just have to get to know her like you would anyone else.

Approach her respectfully, like you would any other woman.

Thanks. She doesn't wear a ring. So can I safely assume that she is not engaged?

Not necessarily. In Mumbai it is a gold necklace that indicates whether someone is married or not - not a ring. So you might need to do a bit of research.

OP, She does not wear gold necklace. I see a necklace but that looks like fashion necklace.

OP, does the "fashion necklace " have tiny black beads in it?. If so, she's married

Your post is incredibly insulting.

1. "But she doesn't look like one"

2. "I'm surprised she's from India. (with) I didn't know people from India could look like this."

3. "Can Indian people who are married and have kid look slim and young?"

How many times do you need to express your shock towards Indians?

Light skin, dark skin, fat, slim, straight hair, curly hair, tall, short and everything in between. You know, like all other human beings.

There are millions and millions of Indian women and SURPRISE we don't all look the same or dress the same.

What? This is such ignorant statement.

OP, try and get to know her as a person first. You can always ask her out for coffee or lunch at work.

Update

OP here, Its confirmed that the girl is married and has a 3 year old boy. Found out from other resources

How I feel?

1) Feel a bit sad
2) Happy that I didn't make a fool of myself by asking her out

What I learnt?

Never judge a book from its cover
