There is a NHTSA recall system and GM agreed to pay a $35 million fine. This of course does does not absolve the company of liability for damages in civil claims.

You're making far too much sense for the Tea Party type that started this thread to understand what you're typing.

Again, the problem is Federal emissions regulations to begin with. And Obama's personal beef with Volkswagen.

What's your basis for your assertion that Obama has a personal beef with Volkswagen? Just that they oppose clean air regulations? Um, that would describe every auto company in the world, duh.

I linked to an article that went over his anger at Volkswagen/unions.

I read that article. It had nothing to do with "anger". It had to do with Obama supporting unions. Again, like he's done with regard to the entire auto industry. You're trying really hard to make this a vendetta that just isn't there.

And a bunch of states and citizens' groups are interceding as well. But, never mind, I'm sure it's a government conspiracy.

What gets me about this whole thing is that the owners of these vehicles that continue to defend VW are basically saying that they don't care that VW lied to them. How about they take out the airbags and just say they're in there. I means, it's over regulation so it's fine to sell products dishonestly. Maybe we can import that good Chinese baby formula. The FDA is over regulating.

Their practices turn out to have violated the laws of numerous countries. Apparently we are supposed to buy into the conspiracy theory that Al Gore somehow quietly went around and worked with all of these different legislatures and got majority consensus to get all of these various countries to pass emissions laws. If so, he deserves a medal for being politician of the century! LOL!

VW is being hoisted on its own goody goody petard. Grab the popcorn.

What are you talking about? The majority of VW owners are outraged and pissed as hell. For now, I have no choice but to continue driving my TDI, but I will never buy a VW again.

This is just dumb. It is not Obama's fault that VW cheated.
