Would you pull out a 1st grader to go to Disney in March?

OP here. I like this idea. I don't think DH plans to go for the entire conference either. If we leave after school on Thursday, kids would only miss 1 day of school. We could do 3 days parkhopper. Maybe 1 day MK, 1 day AK and 1/2 days at Epcot and HS.

PP here. Well, I'll offer one further suggestion because we are cheap
It's a late return on Sunday, so it is tough for school on Monday. We we normally got three single park tickets and did Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and then Animal Kingdom on the last day. You can feel like you've pretty much seen all of animal kingdom by 2pm.

Conferences also often offer "discounted"tickets (discount in quotes because what we were offered was something like half price for an afternoon entry)

Oh I didn't know there was a such thing as a discounted afternoon entry. I don't think DH's conference offers any discounts. I know his work won't subsidize our tickets. haha

I would do it, but I would be sad about DH missing the experience with the kids, and them missing it with them. I think figuring out ways for DH to enjoy it too, and maybe cutting down on the missed school, sounds good, even if you have to pick up the cost of some non-conference hotel days. Have fun!

Park hopper is expensive. Just pick 1 park for the last day.

We've gone to Disney a few times since our oldest have been in elementary. It's no big deal, the teachers provided work but also told us not to worry about it if we didn't do it. They asked that they keep a journal about their trip. Have fun!

I believe all the naysayers have never actually taken their kids out of school to travel--so they really have no clue as to the impact or lack there of, while the proponents have (routinely) pulled their kids out for disney, Europe, skiing, other business trips, etc. and have assured you that it's not an issue at all...especially with a first grader.

This. Every time I do it, I think, why did I worry? It was great and we should do it more. Our friends with older kids say do it now!!!
