Very hairy legs on 7 year old DD and she's upset about it.

I would check with the doctor. I agree with those who say, help your daughter handle this as an aspect of grooming. Either pants, tights, skirts or shaving, cream, what have you.

Being bullied about this could really end up hurting her. Help her with this.

Look, winter and pants/tights season is here. Maybr just give it time. Do you really want to start this with a 1st or 2nd grader's legs?

Re evaluate in the spring and maybe try some coping mechanisms in the interim.

I agree.

Some people are hairy. It's not necessarily early puberty.

The thing is OP, you need to get to the route of the teasing.

The bullies will just pick something else.

Hi I'm a guy and had a girlfriend once that used some kind of lightening cream between shaving. You could hardly see the hair. She hated shaving and let it go as long as possible.

Of course it's not early puberty. It's an easily eliminated irritant. How many of you who are so protective of a child's leg hair dealt with this yourself as children?

My mom thought I was too young to deal with it in elementary school (I was 5'5" and 120 pounds with my period and body hair/odor at 8), and the teasing was unpleasant, albeit nothing that drove me to tears.

I was not 5'5" until the 8th grade. Parents definitely need to adapt if they have a child who is going through puberty early.

I was 5'8" by 6th grade and 120lbs, but didn't get my period until 8th grade. Topped out at 5'9" at that time. My mom let me shave my legs whrn I asked. Oddly o asked easter morning whrn I was in 6th grade. It was a non-event.

6th grade is totally different than 1st!

I did.

And, I agree it is not early puberty.

My mom didn't let me shave until a certain age and it was mean. She was super overprotective and controlling about everything. I simply didn't want to get made fun of and didn't even know there was a sexual aspect to it.

I would help her shave her legs. It is something she will eventually likely do regardless, so might as well start as soon as she is self-conscious about it. I would hate if someone forced me to walk around with hairy legs when there is qma fast and easy solution to it.

When I was a child, my mom bleached my arms and legs. I think she used Jolen cream to bleach the hair. I didn't start shaving until middle school.

+1. That's ridiculous. Can she read?

What does being able to read have to do with a child who has excessive leg hair? The whole original post states that it seems way too early to shave because it typically is WAY too early. But what's the alternative if the child is being teased and she's completely self-conscious about it. The leg hair is very different than her peers and it's causing problems. The whole point of the post was that it's way earlier than when it's expected to have to deal with this. At no point in the post does it say "hey, I really want to make my DD shave her legs for fun!"

I am finding this hard to believe 5"5 with a period at 8 Would put you in precocious puberty which is a medical condition characterized by short statue.
