Removal process for teacher?

I remember being at a "W" school with a teacher who was teaching math, but was trained as an English teacher, yet couldn't speak or write with proper grammar. It's possible her math skills were better than her English skills, which isn't saying much. My parents tried their best to get me transferred to another teacher but were not successful.

This is no longer true. There is a process, and it is used. Sounds like it's being used right now, but it does generally take a school year.

It can take up to 2 school years if the problem teacher has some growth in year one of PAR, but still fails to meet standard. This is especially true of new teachers and those with extraordinary circumstances. If OP's daughter's teacher really had a TBI, she may be granted an extra year to work with a speech pathologist on making her speech more coherent and less rambling.

I think the parents are planning a mass observation in Columbus Day.

What will you do with the observation forms? Give them to the principal or someone else?

omg, NP here. I think it's well-established that Bethesda/CC/Rockville tends to have more DCUM parents posting in the MD schools forum than other areas. I don't live in Bethesda, and I understand this. When speculating about where this OP may be from, the PP was picking out the most DCUM-represented areas. Clearly, it could be a teacher at Baker for all we know.

I posted on the other thread too. I wouldn't storm the building with observation forms. It could get in the way of your principal being able to follow his process and get the teacher out of the building. She can then say she was harassed or that she couldn't teach because all those people were there etc.

We can eliminate Baker. They have a female principal.

OP, what is your DD studying in class right now? Has she finally finished feudalism?

OP here. She's just finished maps.

That is really, really far behind.

Her class should have already finished the feudal political system and have compared it the Byzantine Empire and Islamic Empires. This week, they should be moving on to the Crusades, Mongols, and the Black Death over the next two weeks. The focus for these three is all causes and effects. Especially how they eventually help lead to the end of feudalism.

Do you have a copy of the Across the Centuries textbook at home? Or is her teacher using MyWorld History (the new Pearson textbook)? Try to have your DD read the relevant chapters.

OP,
I would write an email to the teacher and ask how she plans to finish the Unit I curriculum before 10/30. This is one of the few times that I advocate ccing the principal.

This may be my child's class. Was there news today? Something about surgery?
Anonymous
Sounds like the teacher has a brain tumor?

The class was told that the surgery was on the foot/leg. Might just be story, not clear?
