Trying to quit butter

Anonymous
10:05 here. I read a great magazine article about different olive oils recently and then tracked down an amazingly green California one at Trader Joe's, of all places. My 4 YO son literally drinks it when he finishes dipping his bread in it -- he tips the last few drops into his mouth. It's good.

Low fat or fat free cream cheese is a great spread too. You can mix in all sorts of stuff and stir/whish/whip it to be more flavorful. Veggies, herbs, salmon, fruits or even olives.

This is a cute thread. OP placed an innocent question, then she got bashed by some not so nice posters, then she said that she quit (rightly so), then someone came back in a responsible fashion, then the thread got back to OP's question, then OP came back.
See, when we try, it can be nice.

I know, the OP really got harsh treatment at the hands of the butter enthusiasts. I pasted some of the worst offenders below. I don't know how some people can sleep at night after posting such mean comments to total strangers. The PP who made the crack comment had the nerve to add a smiley face!!! I wonder if they talk to their kids like this!

I buy the Olivio spread but would never ever give up butter. EVER.

Oooooh. I could never give up butter! Have you tried using smaller quantities?

What's wrong with butter? It's delicious and natural and people have been eating it for hundreds of years.

Everything in moderation. Butter is good for you. I'd rather have something natural in my system than something processed with who knows what.

OP, it's not crack, it is butter. How much butter could you be using that you need to replace it with something else? Natural is always the way to go

How is that offensive? My word! First, I was trying to be funny; second, I was offering an alternative, but I didn't know at the time she had high cholesterol. And you wonder how I talk to my kids? I wonder if you think anything contrary can be said in good nature?

I offered an alternative, because I truly believe we can eat many of the things deemed "bad" if we eat them in moderate quantities. I think so many people in our society fall on these anti-fat or anti-carb bandwagons without truly understanding how their bodies work. When I made my post, I had assumed (because she hadn't stated it clearly at first) that the OP was like the rest of us who was looking for ways to lose weight or something. I recently lost 30 lbs eating smaller portions, without cutting out specific foods or ingredients, so I was speaking from my experience with that. Oh, and my cholesterol dropped significantly as well. I had just read a cookbook that suggested using 1 tsp of butter in place of a TBSP of butter to still get flavor.

And OP: are you recently post-partum? If so, that could be one of the reasons your cholesterol is high and it should go down as time goes on. If not, then a healthy diet and maybe a session with a nutritionist will help.
