I rented a car from Hertz for about $500 for the month. If you sign up for a Gold account, they give you points for free days. A month will get you an extra 3 days free I think. You can get coupon codes from sites like retailmenot and use your AAA to get a 10% discount, if you have it.
Also, check out Upstart. They offer loans based on your earning potential. Maybe check out Earnest too. |

No luck yet. My bank turned me down because my debt to credit ratio is really high right now. I am wondering if I can make it on rides from friends and family (without using up their goodwill) until I have enough to pay cash for an inexpensive but reliable used car. I did give one relative gas money.
I asked the current childcare center what would happen if I broke the contract and they want to charge me for 60 days, payble upon termination of service! I can't do that and pay for childcare elsewhere close to work and save for a car. The plus side is that I've lost 5 lbs from all of the extra walking and hauling stuff around. And the weather has been decent.

I was about to suggest combining a taxi and bus/subway but missed your post from 12:10 about how you tried Uber.
What was the issue with Uber? I'm not familiar with it but it's supposed to be cheaper than taxis right? There was one parent at my kid's daycare who would always get a taxi to pick up their kid. And I used to know someone who drove a cab who had regular customers that they'd pick up at set times and days. Not sure if you could do something similar, at least part of the way and then ride the subway/bus the rest of the way to cut down on the cost. |
