Tell me about South Mountain Creamery

Their eggs are amazing. They've partnered with Jometown Harvest to bring fresh veggies and fruits too. The apples I got today were out of this world.

I usually buy from them every couple of weeks. Their milk lasts a long time. You can double up two weeks' supply to cut down on delivery fees.

The prices aren't great compared to grocery store products. You're paying for extreme freshness and ethical treatment of farm animals and land.

Wait! You have to get your black lives matter sign to go with your smc tin bucket on your doorstep. Oh the irony of chevy chase.

Love the butter and eggs. Milk stays fresh for a long time.

butter, eggs, milk, cream - delicious.

turkey meat good - frozen.

crabcakes - inedible (threw them away - cat would not even eat them).

We are co spidering starting to order south mountain creamery delivery (Rockville). Any recent experiences (I think they’ve merged with Homestead for delivery now?)? Do you use your own cooler or buy the $75 metal one from then? Does the milk last two weeks or so we need to order weekly? We would be ordering whole for a baby and 1-2% for the rest of the family (I think).

We have been ordering from smc for close to 6-7 years (Gaithersburg).
We use a regular cooler and it works just fine. Our delivery date just HAPPENED to work out that someone is almost always home (it never sits out all day).
Milk def lasts two weeks, we have gone to biweekly delivery just to save the (admittedly quite small) delivery fee. I sometimes add in the alternate week if there is something particular that we want or need. Their partnership with hometown harvest means i can actually just get a delivery and avoid the grocery store entirely if needed/desired (busy week/end, sick, etc).
We rarely get their produce otherwise bc i like to pick personally. Rarely get convenience foods bc we don’t eat a ton of them anyway.
Re milk: just get whole for everyone! And you can set a recurring delivery... so every two weeks X will show up even when you forget to specify an order ahead of time.

I am going to be starting next week and was wondering how big of a cooler I need. I will be getting 5 1/2 gallons, a pint of cream and eggs.

Would love some recommendations for coolers and any tips.

We bought the SMC box - we only buy 2 gallons every two weeks (and eggs and butter) and I think five would easily fit.

We visited the creamery a few weeks ago as we happened to be in the area. I recommend it! Really pretty area and if you time it right, you can watch the cows get milked (or the calves get fed, but we weren’t there at the correct time for that). Milk was great, we’re considering ordering but it’s not too big of a deal to go to Whole Foods to get tricking springs either.

I don’t think 11 bottles would fit in their box. I think maximum more like 6 to 8 nd you need space for ice packs for the summer. If you really drink that much In a week, get two bins.
