2.) Are you Organic? No. We follow traditional farming methods which are often similar to that of organic farmers. For example, we do not give our animals growth hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. Our cows have free choice feeding, meaning they have a feed bunk in the barn that has a mixture of corn, hay, soybeans, and minerals from which they can eat. They also have access to pastures where they can graze at will. What the cows are fed here, is grown here! We also work closely with local soil conversation groups to preserve the soil and prevent soil erosion. We have many projects on which we are working regarding green energy such as a methane digester (converting cow manure to electricity) and bio-diesel (converting soybeans to fuel). http://www.southmountaincreamery.com/pages.php?pageid=9#are_organic |
Another long time customer. Man, do I love South Mountain. The mil k is amazing - rich and creamy and delicious. Never had it go bad too fast. We've had great eggs, cheese, cottage cheese, cream cheese, yogurt, chicken, beef, and turkey from them too. But the BEST thing they've got? The BUTTER. Oh my god, you'll think you died and went to heaven. Wow, the butter. The only thing we haven't loved was the bacon - too salty for us. Plus the drivers are SO NICE and bring milkbones for our doggies. |
I'm thinking of getting our milk (whole) and eggs from SMC. Seems like people are pretty happy with it, at least from this last posting in 2015. People still happy? I'm assuming it is pasteurized milk (MD laws?) but it doesn't clearly state it on the website that I could find. Any one know for sure? |
Yes, it is pausturized. We get all our milk, meat, and eggs from them. Very happy with it! I have a standard order, and every Thursday morning there is a gallon and a half of milk, a quart of cream, and 3 pounds of meat on my front porch. Love it. |
Their ice cream is so good! I got a flavor with coconut in it that was outstanding. I went with my friend and her little ones to feed the cows once. What a blast. Bakeshop in Clarendon uses their ice cream(prob milk too) When I'm craving it in smaller amounts, I go get the ice cream sandwiches there. The macwiches made with macarons are ridiculously good. |
I get all my meat, produce and dairy from them every week. I love the dairy creamer for my coffee and I have tried all the different cream cheese and butter flavors. Definitely try it and you won't be disappointed! |
Hmmm |
I loved it but only getting milk was just too pricey with delivery. Sad to have to stop my subscription. |
I've changed my eating habits and cut way back on dairy, so I unfortunately had to stop delivery because food was going to waste.
Fortunately, we live in Frederick county and I'm able to drive to the store about once a month and pick up eggs, cream, ice cream and best of all, the buttermilk! As long as I keep it stashed in the back of my fridge and not in the door, everything lasts and never spoils. |
My husband, who is a night owl, was sitting in his office late one night (3 am) and saw a suspicious-looking truck pull up in front of our neighbor's house. He saw a man get out of the truck, run up to the door, and then run back to the truck and drive off. He could not figure out what was happening but figured if they were there to rob the place, they would have stayed longer. Of course, it turned out to be South Mountain Creamery delivering milk! Lol. |
I've been looking for new grocery delivery, and was hopeful, but they don't deliver to my address. Like most services, cause I live in a poor area. Such a bummer. |
Their skim has the consistency of the supermarket's 2%. And now my kids are snobs who don't like milk out of cartons or plastic jugs.
We vary how much we go through. I don't drink milk and sometimes the kids are big into cereal and sometimes not. It's easy to delete your order 2 days ahead of time if you find you haven't made a dent in the previous week's delivery. |
They used to (and maybe still do?) offer the whole milk with the cream on top. I'd skim off the cream and eat it myself. No regrets! |
South Mountain Creamery products are amazing. We could taste a huge difference between grocery store products and their products while out of town. Delivery is like clockwork and we've never have a problem in over 2 years.
They have spoiled us. |
i like it but stopped delivery, at least for now. milk is better, cream is delicious. i didn't love the butter.
I am cheap and think the milk is expensive (like $8-$10 a gallon) and the delivery free ridiculous (i know they have quite a few deliveries in my small Arlington neighborhood), so had two weeks' worth of milk delivered at a time. i think some of my friends pooled their deliveries. |
