Attempted kidnapping of a 2 year old at Foggy Bottom metro this AM

Anonymous
My 2 yr doesn't talk. She'll cry but doesn't really scream. I guess I need to tell DH and the nanny to make sure they always use the buckles on the stroller with her.

WTF????

That joke was in rather poor taste, at least in my opinion.

Terrifying.

It really doesn't matter. A woman tried to take another person's child.

Many people. What does that have to do with anything? Victim blame much?

Lots of people take Metro with a two-year-old. Do you ever take Metro? If so, you've seen it for yourself. If not, well, I've seen it.

^^^In fact, I've done it.

I hope that 99% of people would help if they saw this happening.

I once had a drunk guy holding a bottle stand over me screaming. Nobody did anything. I looked around, and all the men in the car were looking at their phones.

Because they were all posting on DCUM asking for advice on what to do-- they didn't help because someone told them to "MYOB."

Fixed it for you...

For starters, tourists ride Metro with 2 year old's. Maybe the mother had a doctor's appointment somewhere in DC and is within walking distance of Metro. If this was at night, your comment would make sense but this was in broad daylight.

Yet this woman's child was almost kidnapped

Which kinda makes pp's concern rational

It does not sound to me as though the child was "almost kidnapped". The woman tried to lift the kid out of the seat and couldn't (sounds like the train was between stations anyway) and a large number of people then intervened to help the parent and detain the woman.

It would be very scary, and terrible but it does not sound like a reason not to ride metro.

It's impressive that so many people did something to help.
