+1, but do the weekday evening hours. Use 22304 to find the location hours. The weekend slots do fill up fast (I noticed only because we were at the library on a Saturday). We had no wait for a Wednesday night. Bonus is the CVS next door if you need a picture. |

I have renewed my children's passports 3 times at the one in Capital Heights because I usually can get a next day appointment. They can also do pictures. The woman that does it doesn't have the warmest personality, but she knows what she's doing, and when I expedite and pay for the overnight shipping I get the passports back in 2 weeks vs all my friends who wait weeks to get an appointment in NOVA or NW DC and then wait weeks after the appointment to find out there was a problem with the application, etc. I don't mind driving 20 minutes on the Beltway to get it done right.
Child must appear. You must prove who your child is and how the child is related to you (birth certificate and expired passport), who you are (copy of your license front and back, birth certificate,) same for your spouse (unless you notarized the form, along with the photo copy of his drivers license front and back), application, two photos, and tons of checks. |
| Yes. Both parents are suppose to go in person with the child to a post office or passport office. You can have one parent not attend if you have the proper paperwork. We re-did our son's this summer. If you are near Takoma Park - the recreation center has passport hours - during the week so yes you have to miss work and school (or pick a school holiday that the office is open). We were in and out in less than thirty minutes - no appointment but we were there when they opened. Go the passport back in 3 weeks. We also made an appointment at a Post office in Chevy Chase on the chance that we couldn't get it done in Takoma Park - but we had to make that appointment a month out. In the four corners post office they did tell us that they Saturday Passport hours but they had one in August and I don't know when the next one will be - I've heard its crowded and you can expect a long wait. Most of the places I called did not do pictures so make sure you have the proper pictures with you. |
| For those of you playing along at home --I called Bethesda. The first Saturday appointment available is January 2016. |
| Take a day off or at least the morning and go to Takoma Park Community center |
