Amy Poehler's tasteless joke

Anonymous

It wasn't a joke about Blue. It was meant to drive home how horrible the main characters are. In this, it succeeded.

Still, I say, Blue, welcome to black womanhood, where a comedian can make a career out of her "support for girls" (see Poehler's YouTube channel, Strong Girls), and still allow for this "joke."

This is a solid example of how black women are Othered and how black women fail to benefit from the patriarchy. This is the essential argument black women take against feminism, a white, middle-class construct, where "entering the workforce" was a major historical event (hello, slavery!).

Blue received none of the protections Poehler demands for her own children, that they be safeguarded from being placed in the public sphere.

If there is any piece of our community that is held as innocent, it is children. We removed them from harm, and in many ways, from ridicule. We as a society protect them. But, not this black toddler.

It's damn outrageous, and Poehler must be held to task on this. It demands a broader discussion of how easily black women may be targeted (rest in peace, Sandra Bland).

Vulgar in the extreme.

Jennifer Morrison was also on several episodes of "How I Met Your Mother".

And so, the thread is all about a white actress instead of the three-year-old?

Awesome.

Where's that thread about white people's feelings again...?

But she does not produce songs with a pedophile, JayZ does... get it.

It's okay to be friends with a pedophile and to bring them around your kids but it's not okay to point out how sick it is.

We generally keep it quiet, because we know there are people like you out there, who love to get all riled up about how children are so sacred you can't ever joke about them.

We know you think we're sick, we know you love to tell us how our children should be taken away from us, how you'd never let your child over to our house, etc. We don't care. We found each other, and every once in a while, we make really disgusting jokes about kids.

No sacred cows at our house, either.

I would hope to see what would happen if your child is ever raped/molested. I wonder if they would even feel comfortable telling you.

I find this far more disturbing than the joke in question- those who are waiting for their "I told you so" moments at the expense of others. Its grossly inhumane.

Why did everyone miss that the whole point of the "joke" was to get the teller into a sticky situation?

Tell us the joke!

I don't find her funny at all. I am not surprised that she would make a completely tasteless joke -- that's what she does.

WUT? "I can't wait until Amy Poehler's kids are old enough to be peed on by R. Kelly" does not make sense because Amy Poehler doesn't work with R. Kelly, but Jay-Z does. Amy Poehler hasn't furthered R. Kelly's career, but Jay-Z has. The joke is supposed to be offensive, but not lacking in all sense.

Was R. Kelly convicted of child molestation?

Does Amy Poehler make those type of jokes about Baldwin, Blanchett, Johansen, Stewart, et al. who make movies with Woody Allen, furthering his career?

So what -- because her dad has worked with this guy that makes a 3 yr old fodder for a tasteless joke? How about you make the point about the horror of pedophilia without using kids as the brunt of it...or at least find a way to use your own kids... if you are so damn funny and creative.
