You have a beautiful home. I think all too often people fight what things want to be - by that I mean you have an elegant old home so that's what it wants to be.
The wallpaper goes with an old beautiful home. But, someone tried to lighten up the house so they went with white trim and lightened the floors. I would actually go with an off color trim - not pure white. I would stain the floors dark. I would have someone fabricate a nice wooden cover for the radiator. And then I would change the LR decor. Very few are fortunate enough to live in an elegant old home - why try to make it something its not. I would lose the rug in the LR. You can make the purple sofa work with a different paint color on the walls but you need a more subtle rug. I realize they are expensive. |

Tacky 80s wallpaper does not fit with a beautiful old home. |
I am waiting for Clark to accidentally chop off part of the bannister with a chainsaw or Molly to flounce down the stairs with her famous eyeroll. |
Wallpaper like that makes me think of the 80s, also. My parents had stuff like that. |
To each his own. |
No - it's exceptionally trendy right now. Not 80s at all. |
But someday it probably will be, right? |
NP here. We're thinking of removing old carpet on the steps and replacing it with hardwood. But we can envision all of us slipping and sliding and taking headers down the steps on a regular basis. If runners are out of fashion, what do you do to make wood steps safer? |
We walk barefoot. |
Well, everything old is new again - eventually - whether or not it should be. I don't care how trendy 70s wallpaper is now, it will never set foot in my home. It really comes down to what you like or, sometimes, what you can live with. The OP's wallpaper isn't awful, it's just very dated - to the point where I would have a burning need to replace it. But maybe they like it, which is fine. There probably aren't many men here, so I can say one thing for sure - I wouldn't let the husband dictate this, unless he has impeccable taste, which most don't. |
