I think it's all about how you accent this wallpaper in other aspects of the entry.

Get rid of the runner and and the red stripes on the trim.

Get rid of the window treatment in the living room.

There's no hope for that stuff.

That carpet runner is awful.

Pretty house, though. I love Boston.

OP here: I just showed the thread to the other one of us (aka him). He has retreated :d

that purple couch....

Definitely get rid of the runner and the pink trim detail. The wallpaper is definitely dated, but it is not horrible. If you have little kids, I'd keep it until they are out of the beat the crap out of my walls stage.

Agree. It's definitely 80s wallpaper. Be thankful it wasn't the 70s.

I will be the odd man out here and say don't make your house look like everyone else's.
Boring. I'm snoozing. Zzzzzz.
Get rid of the runner and add some personal more moderny things around it but keep the wallpaper.

Hmm. Still not loving that pink/mauve wallpaper tone with the golden tones in the floor.

The whole place screams 1980s. It reminds me of the assisted living facilities I looked at for my mother-in-law. The wallpaper, red stripe, runner, nearby window treatment, teal rug, couch, and LR paint need to go. This looks like a lovely home. It will look so much fresher when you update it.

BTW, I knew it had to be the husband who wanted to keep the wallpaper.

Exactly! It is fighting with the floors. I also think the crazy purple couch could be saved with more modern accessories/table. The window treatment and the runner have to go. The wallpaper does not work with that room.

70s wallpaper is incredibly popular right now. If it had top condition 70s paper, you keep it. 80s is not okay.

The runner is worse than the paper, I'd get rid of both.
Paint it a gorgeous tiffany blue- Go to Salamander resort and look at their main living space for inspiration, I totally see your beautiful foyer in those colors.
