Is an ice cream maker worth having?

Anonymous
YES YES YES. I've posted before about ice cream - I personally want to make it as my job (like have an ice cream business). If I have folks over for dinner, I make ice cream for dessert - well, something and ice cream (brownies and ice cream, fruit crisp and ice cream).

If you get one, get the perfect scoop cook book or visit brown eyed baker for great recipes

(red velvet cake; salted caramel with chunks of salted caramel; chocolate peanut butter; straciatella, ect....so much better than store bought).

we have a crappy freezer now so paused in the making. However, even if the bowl takes up room you can put stuff in the bowl like a bag of peas so it's not a total waste.

This sounds amazing. But do you any of you have trouble controlling your weight? I do, and I think I would fall off the deep end if I had an ice cream maker!!

I did gain weight from my ice cream making. Partly why I stopped. But if I'm going to eat it, I'd rather make it myself from whole quality ingredients. SO much better.

+1

(Or +1000000 if we're talking ice cream weight)

I actually think the ice cream maker in some ways has been good for my body weight. A lot of the time I use it, it is because we just picked 10 quarts of strawberries at Butlers or something. If I make a lot of it inot strawberry ice cream, it lasts for a while. If I turn all of it into pies, it lasts about 36 hours.

I've ended up throwing away every single one I've ever bought -- getting the ice, salt, etc, etc is too much work.

I think we are mostly talking about the electric ice cream makers with the freezer bowl. As long as the bowl is frozen (has to be in the freezer overnight to be cold enough, which is easier said than done) you just put the ingredients in and turn it on and it takes 20-30 minutes. They are generally $40-$50.

I don't because we eat very small portions of ice cream in our house (we put it in 6 oz. ramekin size bowls instead of a normal size bowl).
