Is it fair to ask for a refund?

If I cancelled within two weeks of a planned vacation I would not expect a refund. I would tell the other families not to worry about a refund and its up to them how they handle that. That's the way it goes sometimes.

Seriously - my brother went to disney with a broken arm. Happened the day before we left to go.

I would give you a refund if like, you had to go to a funeral or something. But your kid broke their arm? And like, a normal, everyday break? Not something catastrophic that requires surgery? Suck it up and go.

Also, why can't the kid go to the beach with a broken arm? Still plenty of fun to be had and it would be a good lesson for the kids to see that circumstances don't have to be ideal to follow through on something or to have fun.

I think it will be the torture for the kid to be on the beach and not be able to go in the water. The house has a pool too.

So it's not fair for them to pay a refund, but it's OK for them to use our room if we don't go?

How would you know (or care) if your room is used. When you book with other families, you have to suck it up if emergencies happen. FWIW, if you had to cancel with a realtor, you would still pay the full price of the rental.

To the OP - they make cast covers or you can use press n' seal plastic wrap to cover the wrap up and still allow your child to go to the beach.

everyone's question. I don't think OP has really addressed this. Besides vacay is two weeks away - the kid will be super used to the cast by then. I would think the kid would be more disappointed not to go to the beach.

This year one family said they couldn't go. So the other two split the cost to pay for the reservation. Then the third family changed their mind and decided to join. So they paid their share to the families that already paid for the house.

The vacation is still two weeks away. Now one of the families had an emergency. Their DC broke an arm and they can't go to the beach.

Is it fair to ask the other families for a refund? Given it's most likely they will be using their room.

I don't really think of a broken arm as an emergency. An inconvenience and unfortunate. But an emergency?

OP, do you want to go on this vacation? Is the arm really the issue?

No refund though if probably offer of I was one of the families still going. Especially I'd use the room.

Martyr-mommy. But only for your kids, f that other family, you're a cheap martyr-mommy!

Martyr?

There is nothing else to do there. Everyone goes to the beach or pool. It's too hot to play in the sand for longer than 15 min without getting in the water. It's Florida in June.

Or should I just let DC watch TV for a week?

You've been given 17 options to cover the cast. Next excuse?

And your kid is okay with not going at all? She/he can wade, build sandcastles, take walks on the beach, collect seashells, etc. Get a cover for the cast. Is there a waterproof cast option? Ask DR.

sounds like OP doesn't want to bother.

I would assume that if they aren't going because of the broken arm it's due to follow-up visits to the doctor or surgery.

That too. I don't know yet if a surgery will be needed or not. But follow ups - yes.
