Getting clothes for curvy teens who don't want to flaunt it.

I want to second this as a busty girl. You need a bit of decolletage to show or you'll up at least a cup size.

You think a size 6-8 is too heavy? Awful!!!

For a 13 year old??? Hell yeah!

OP said her DD is 5'7". Someone that height who wears a size 6-8 is most definitely not heavy, no matter how old they are.

I hope you are a troll because you honestly have no idea that girls are pretty much their adult size between 12-14yrs old. They don't grow like boys do in high school. They are done by high school. And the fact that you are proudly shaming someone else's child into thinking they are overweight by a waist size of 6 is disgusting. Your kids must hate you.

And your kids must love you because you let them eat as much McDonalds as they want.

Really sad.

I was in this boat when I was 13 as well. Breasts grew from a B to a C/D and hips spread out.

Old Navy and Gap should have lots of options for not too tight, not too trendy summer clothes. They're still my go-to at age 32.

Just ignore. It is just some unhappy human being who tries to build their low self esteem up by getting a rise out of people on an anonymous forum. I actually feel bad for her.

Anonymous wrote:OP, wow this really went off the mark. My daughter is 5'7" and is not overweight at all. She isn't a twig but she is athletic and strong. Plays volleyball, basketball and softball and is healthier than most girls her age. I am so put off by these comments. She wears a size 6 but sometimes size 8 because she doesn't like form fitting clothes . If that is overweight in DCUM so be it. Kudos.

I'm sorry OP, but I hope you aren't taking those hateful trolls seriously. They live to tear down people and we should just learn to ignore them.

Luckily, there was Laura Ashley. Anyone else remember these:

5'5", 115 pounds, C almost a D... in 5th grade. I lived in baggy tees, bulky sweaters and grungy jeans for a year until my grandmother put her foot down and helped me.

Wow that is tough. Were you accepting of your grandmom's help? Was it better from her than your mom?

I'm 11:35 and 11:38. Yes, my grandmother was amazing. My mother was not only not interested, she was sure that there was no reason I needed a bra until middle school, at least until the gym teacher made me sit out for an entire quarter in 5th grade...

My 16-year-old daughter quickly developed a DD bust and is very conservative in how she dresses. She's 5'7" and is done growing in terms of height. The stretch marks are still there, but they're slowly fading.

She likes to buy dresses at Ross & searches for fabrics that aren't too clingy. Cotton shift-type dresses look great on her. Most of the time, she wears jeans and T-shirts.

One thing that's important is finding the right bra. I spent a lot of money getting Wacoal and Natori bras for her from Nordstrom after she spent time with a fitting professional.

My DD is proud of her shape, though she wishes she could find a suitable swimsuit.

For any girl that's a D or higher, I recommend Cacique through Lane Bryant.

I think once you turn 16, most kids can be proud of their shape. 12/13yrs old, not so much. Some girls still don't have buds and the boys are still 4ft tall.

I also had stretch marks around that age. While I pretty quickly learned not to care, if she is consistently bothered by it, I would recommend getting her some kind of oil/lotion from the drugstore for that. I don't really think they work super well (or maybe I just wasn't good at applying consistently), but I think it's important for girls/young women (and probably people in general! but especially girls at this age) to feel that they have some control over their appearance-- it can be comforting.

I remember this age too--I was 5'10" 120 pounds and wore a size 12. Thin as a rail, but just a large person even at age 13. Back then, clothes were meant to be looser too.

Be sure to help your daughter with the stretch marks and put moisturizer on them, I was so embarassed by mine and thought I was the only one.

Great advice about finding the right bra! It is essential to invest a fair amount of money to get decent bras. Sports bras are not sufficient. With a good bra, she can have confidence that things are holding together.
