Holton Arms

00:51 - I completely agree. My DD's word of the day at the end of every Holton day has been " FANTASTIC!!!!". Now she thanks me at least a couple times each week for "finding Holton" for her. I think we are also fortunate to be in a class that isn't cliquey.

9:06 - PP here ... yes, Iwould consider myself perceptive. So is my DD, as well. And I have further based my impressions on information about many schools, and many conversations with parents who have experienced class dynamics at Holton and other schools, not all of which have been positive.

Girls who seem ahead in math are invited to be tested entering 7th. Maybe 5-10% of the class I knew were placed "ahead" of their grade, one or two of them by two or more years. If you run out of math classes (very uncommon) they will arrange for you to take additional higher math at local colleges.

There were several math whizes in my daughter's class at Holton. They are used to dealing with super smart kids.

How close is the Landon relationship?

Landon is several streets over from Holton. So it doesn't have the same tie that NCS/STA have. There are some kids who have siblings at either Holton or Landon. The ties aren't that close. Some girls know Landon boys from the swim team or polo (Landon uses the Holton pool) or some know each other from drama. I think there is only one class left that is for Landon/Holton. There are a few dances each year where one or the other may have kids from the other. It's not a big deal or close tie.

This year Landon's 3rd and 5th grade boys came over to Holton for a joint science lesson. My DD said it was cool and that they hung out, played a game and had a pizza party after! I think they are trying to do more with the boys at Landon. I think it is a good idea for both schools.

Wait and see about that.

Wait and see about what? They are 3rd and 5th graders! What could possibly be so horrible about these classes coming together a couple times a year? I think some people really lack the ability to think for themselves. This silly mob mentality is crazy. Landon is a fine school and I personally know some of the young men there who are wonderful. I wish more people could look at the many good kids this school puts out instead of focusing on a few bad apples. Geesh! Give me a break.

It was actually 4th and 5th graders.

No you are wrong! My DD is in 3rd and it was the 3rd and 5th graders. If the 4th graders did it too I am unsure but I know for a fact 3rd and 5th grade did do the lesson with Landon.

DD says 3rd, 4th, and 5th. She said boys and girls chose to sit separately at lunch.

My 3rd grade DD forgot to tell me about it and couldn't remember that much about it - said it was fine. Pretty sure she was not traumatized by the event, all you Landon haters out there.

So absurd. Three really good boys in our neighborhood in the Landon Lower School....great kids. Come on.

Does anyone know about the math and science program at Holton? We had a friend who sent their daughter there who was disappointed about the science program. They could not get their daughter into the science program freshman year of high school because it was not required at the time (the daugher is about 22 now). I have heard great things about Holton and am interested in sending my daugher age 7 now there, but I wonder about science and math based on what happend to our friend. Any thoughts???
