MV s/o: impact of flat budget on other schools

Eliminating 3 admin positions? Wow. How many admin staff are there left?

Does this section point to the (DCUM rumored) bullying problem?

By expanding what we provide and improving on our current approaches, we will improve our work to support emotional development and behavior. We are negotiating to increase our onsite mental health support from three days a week to five days a week. In order to evaluate and improve on our approach to Climate and Culture, Ms. Kathryn Conners, founding teacher, will be assisting with the coordination of Climate and Culture for the remainder of this school year. Her work in this temporary role will allow the school to prepare for Topaz Terry’s transition from her role as Director of Climate and Culture and firmly establish the structures and systems we need to support our students’ emotional development and positive behavior.
To bring deeper support and experience to our rising 3rd and 4th grade cohorts, we are restructuring our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms to fewer larger classes. This step, while a significant change, will mean we will have the resources to add support for intervention (language, behavior, and academic), special education, and curriculum development in each classroom and across the grades.
In 3rd grade, we will have classrooms of approximately 24 students each and two dedicated teachers. Two classrooms will be piloting a co-teaching model with two full time teachers - a general education lead and Special Education lead in each. The third class will have a lead teacher and a full time fellow.

Are they actually adding any new slots for 3rd and 4th grade, or are they just consolidating those grades into fewer classrooms?

The difference here is that MV won't have a bump class after the first year. Instead, they just won't add more to that class as they usually would the following year.

Same at Yu Ying. The classes that came after the big bump are 4 classrooms not 6 and the bump class did not add any new kids in K bc that class was oversubscribed.

Be glad you got the news now so you can make an informed choice!
What is your other option? Good luck with your choice.

are

No new slots, at least for 3rd grade. I don't know much about 2nd. It actually seems like the total number of students, at least in 3rd grade is decreasing, so maybe they aren't replacing any attrition. They are consolidating so that they can have more resources in these classes, which have historically been a bit more challenging than the other cohorts.

For those who are looking at this and wondering if this is a positive, it is. This should make you want to attend more. It certainly makes me want to stay more. They saw a problem, and they are addressing it in a creative manner. This is exactly what you would want them to do, at least in my opinion.

^ Sorry, that was a mess. I was talking about the rising third graders. I meant to say that I don't know much about the rising fourth grade.

Are you already in Powell or they both offered at same time?

They are on opposite sides of town. Which is closer to home/better for your commute? I'd go with that one.

Yes as an OOB applicant.

PP, if you are happy at Powell I would not move your child. It sounds like MV is going through a lot of transitions. If you're not happy at Powell then that is totally different.
