| My mil does this. I wouldn't care, but she complains constantly that she never sees my dd in the stuff she buys. For her first Christmas she was two months old. My mil gave her a newborn size fourth of July tank top onsie then was mad she didn't wear it....... |

hahaha. Somewhat related: we went on vacation w/ my in laws when my baby was 6 months old and they rented a 'baby bed' for him to sleep in that was actually and infant sleep positioner type thing that was only 22 inches long (my son was about 27 inches long at that point). I think they just don't tend to remember how big babies are at different ages and then just pick clothes that look cute without thinking to check the sizes/think about the seasons. I'd just say 'Thank you! We love the clothes you picked out! Unfortunately, kid is so big for his/her age (even if they're not) and growing so quickly that I don't know he/she'll be able to fit into this size still by the time the weather gets cool again. Do you think it would be possible to maybe exchange the clothes for larger sizes?' |

Why should you have to do any of these things? This sh*t drives me nuts. I have plenty to do, thanks. I don't need someone else creating all this work for me due to thoughtlessness. |

They are not always being nice. Sometimes they are meddling like when they buy your kid more sweaters because they feel you don't dress your kid warmly enough,. I think there are an equal amount of terrible MIL'S. OP, just donate them and tell her you couldn't use it because of the size. She is not supposed to clothe your child anyway, that is your responsibility. |

You might be able to size exchange even if you can't return.
in the future just tell her DD is a size bigger than she really is. |

OP your MIL bought new clothes, with the tags still on!? You are so lucky!!  My MIL buys used clothes and toys from the thrift store or good will (she drives a Mercedes and has a successful business, it's not like she couldn't afford new clothes) Most stuff is stained or broken - and we end up throwing most of it out. It drives me crazy. When DD was born, she sent a pretty big box of junk, every week for a few months. Every time she visits, she brings a car full of stuff. She has taken to hiding it in our house, putting toys in the basement, stashing clothes behind the rocking chair in DD room or the back of her closet. It's gotten a little bit better in the last year, but was really out of hand the last 4 years (after DD). Now with #2 on the way, I'm worried it will get crazy again. When DH told her about #2, he explicitly told her not to buy anything! FWIW, no amount of polite explaining, firm asking, or firm but polite refusing has worked. At least you can return, regift or consign what she gives you!
